McKenzie Health System Occupational Therapist-ROC in Sandusky, Michigan

Title:   Occupational Therapist                                                       Department:   Rehabilitation Services

Status:   Relief on Call (ROC). Hours may be adjusted in response to workload demands.  May require weekend or evening hours. Low census may be utilized in accordance with hospital policy.

Qualifications/Position Requirements:

  1. Successfully completed and graduated from an accredited occupational therapy professional program recognized by NBCOT and have completed all fieldwork requirements.
  2. Current license by the Michigan Board of Occupational Therapy.
  3. Two years of experience as an occupational therapist, preferably in HC setting (other related setting acceptable), preferred.
  4. Knowledge of current occupational therapy standards of practice.
  5. BLS Certification required within 6 months of hire and recertification as required.
  6. Knowledge and use of occupational therapy theories, models of practice, principles, and evidence based practice to guide intervention decisions.
  7. Knowledge of the federal, state, local legislation, regulations, policies and procedures that mandate and guide occupational therapy practice in hospitals.
  8. Ability to maintain current reporting, documentation, scheduling, and billing in accordance with professional standards, state and local guidelines, and reimbursement requirements.
  9. Ability to determine the need for an occupational therapy evaluation and to select and administer appropriate assessment tools to evaluate the patient.
  10. Ability to interpret the evaluation data and write a comprehensive report that reflects strengths and barriers to patient's participation and occupational performance.
  11. Ability to participate collaboratively with multi-disciplinary HC team to develop individualized Occupational Therapy program/plan to meet patient needs.
  12. Ability to develop occupationally based intervention plans based on evaluation information.
  13. Ability to establish effective working relationships and effective communication with peers, patients, families, physicians and all other support hospital personnel.
  14. Ability to influence the direction of professional rehabilitation services by maintaining a positive perspective/attitude and participation in the promotion of change to keep current with health care.
  15. Organized and has the ability to manage multiple tasks in a stressful situation while maintaining composure and excellence in the delivery of rehabilitation services.
  16. Desire to be part of a health care team dedicated to providing the community and patients optimal care and excellent service.
  17. A sense of responsibility, initiative, honesty and a positive attitude.
  18. Computer skills and experience with electronic medical record, preferred.
  19. Skill in effective oral and written communication.

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Rehabilitation Services Director and with limited supervision and according to established policies and procedures, the occupational therapist leads the process in development, implementation, and coordination of the occupational therapy program. Screening, evaluation, educational program and transition planning, therapeutic intervention, and exit planning is provided for patients identified with or suspected of having disabilities that interfere with their ability to perform daily life activities or participate in necessary or desired occupations. Professional judgment and clinical knowledge are used to develop individualized programming based on occupational performance deficits in the areas of personal care, interaction skills, process skills, and community integration/work.
