The Product Management team guides the strategy and vision for Disney’s incredible global digital products portfolio - from Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+ and the ESPN App to Marvel Unlimited, National Geographic, ABC and ABC News, and film websites and games. Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology is seeking a Director, Product Management - Data Governance & Privacy to lead high visibility data governance and privacy strategy and technology solutions across Disney’s portfolio of entertainment & sports brands, including flagship streaming platforms Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN. This is an executive leadership role focused on enabling Disney Streaming and Disney business and technology teams with best-in-class data capabilities to power our digital applications, enable analysis and reporting on user behavior, marketing, ad targeting, financial reporting, and more while ensuring our products adhere to international and domestic privacy laws as well as TDWC Global Information Security Policies and Standards. Products developed & supported by the Data Governance team support data management, access management, policy enforcement, sensitive data detection, consent management and more. This team captures behavioral and technical data as consumers use our websites and applications, ensuring we adhere to regional privacy regulations for data usage, honor user preferences, and maintain excellent data quality and reliability. This team also chairs a Data Stewardship Council as well as a Data Governance Council which include business, legal, technology, partner product teams’ senior leadership in order to drive DE-ET-wide privacy and governance cross-functional initiatives.
Successful candidates will have experience in technical product management developing and implementing tools for consent management, metadata and master data management, privacy services, OneTrust CMP, as well as data quality in support of high visibility/high-volume consumer applications. The teams in this organization work with senior stakeholders from many parts of the Disney Entertainment business to ensure data requirements from across the breadth of the business are well understood, documented, translated into technical requirements, and implemented & validated by technical teams. This role requires a high degree of communication, strategic thinking, and the ability to creatively solve problems, troubleshoot issues, and interpret data. This role reports to the Executive Director, Data Governance.
Responsibilities
Define and execute the vision, mission, and overall strategy for Data Governance products across Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology.
Lead and grow highly technical product management teams supporting data governance and privacy across the business.
Drive the strategic direction of data governance and privacy technology across the business.
Develop and maintain critical business relationships throughout the organization, ensure senior leaders are consistently well informed about priorities, capabilities, timelines, issues, and releases.
Guide product managers in best practices for agile SDLC, ensure all data products are expertly planned, executed, and supported throughout their lifecycles
Build strategic relationships with key technology and business partners to ensure program success.
Partner with Analytics, Data Science, Data Architecture, Data Quality, Engineering teams, Product Design, and other Technical Program Management team members to develop, test, and deliver high quality products and features
Lead and drive teams on all business readiness activities, including product planning, sequencing, testing, user education, rollout, iteration, and support.
Ensure teams are consistently developing and documenting detailed product requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and success measures.
Lead efforts to identify risks, resolve key blockers, and establish appropriate resolution paths
Fill in gaps across roles and functions as needed, performing as an adaptive problem solver.
Champion a collaborative work environment that cultivates shared understanding, transparency, autonomy, innovation, and continuous learning.
Basic Qualifications
12+ years of experience in product management, data engineering, solution architecture or another relevant technical field
5+ years of management experience leading technical teams
Experience working directly with data engineering teams, managing engineering roadmaps, and communicating technical information to senior executives
Experience with privacy, consent management, data governance, and data management technology
Highly analytical and collaborative qualities with strong technical, strategic and problem-solving skills
Ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced operational environment where change is the norm
Experience presenting to and working with senior leaders
Knowledge of Software Development Lifecycle and Agile development practices
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in business management or relevant technical field
Experience in data or software engineering
Experience in executive level leadership within an enterprise-level organization
Experience building privacy and governance technology with heavy emphasis on data management, consent management, integrations, reporting, etc.
Required Education
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required
The hiring range for this position in Santa Monica, CA is $180,700.00 to $242,300.00 per year, and in Seattle, WA and New York, NY is $189,300.00 to $253,800.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
