The Quality Engineer I will utilize QA/QC principles to maintain high capacity utilization and optimize manufacturing and service operations ensuring product and service meets customer requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manufacturing/industrial background with the ability to understand quality systems, as established from industry specific codes and standards. Qualified to apply inspection and test methods to determine product/service conformance.

  • Perform root cause analysis and leads corrective and preventive action initiatives

  • Perform and report results of quality audits/surveillance

  • Collect and analyze data to eliminate redundant or unnecessary processes and improve existing processes. Identifies and interprets trends in data, and applies simple SPC techniques to acquire data.

  • Finalize product inspection procedures and perform inspections when necessary

  • Support the establishment of quality related training programs and techniques

  • Maintain a well organized document control/archival system for project quality documents

  • Reviews customer and supplier inspection and test plans to assure proper witness/hold points are injected into the plans and proper tests are detailed in the plans.

  • Generate Quality related procedures and specifications to support the MPS Quality Management System (QSM)

  • Assist in maintaining the NCR and PAR databases, and coordinating the process of issuing and closing open NCRs/PARs

  • Assist management to create and report on Metrics

  • Monitors inspection methods during receipt, in–process, and final inspections

  • Monitors calibration control activities to assure compliance to established metrological parameters.

  • Perform other such duties as may be required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EDUCATION

  • Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree (BA) in Engineering from four-year college or university (preferable); or at least three (3) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in a mechanical component manufacturing environment. Basic knowledge of metallurgy, as it relates to welding and heat treat, is desirable.

  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

  • Computer Skills: Knowledge of database, project management, spreadsheet, and word processing software, electronic mail, statistical software, graphics, technical diagrams, flow charts, etc.

  • Certifications: The position requires certification as a Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) or Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), within six months of employment. Additional certifications in Nondestructive Testing and/or Welding Inspection (AWS/CWI) are highly desirable.
