Accountant 1Job LocationsUS-PA-ScrantonRequisition ID2021-12247Position TypeFull TimeCategoryAccounting - AuditOverviewApplies principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports by performing the following duties.Major Position ResponsibilitiesPrepares and maintains routine accounting records and reports in support of a specific accounting function in accordance with standard accounting practices, FAR regulations, CAS Standards and GD policies and proceduresPrepares journal entries for the general ledger, analyzes account balances and reconciles accounts to the general ledger and subsidiary ledgersPerforms month/year end closing and consolidation procedures and reconciliation of balancesProvides accounting data on assigned projects and issues automated reports to other functional areas.Monitors and provides input to the accounting and financial systems to ensure data is accurate, complete and timelyAnalyzes financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital, and prepares balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports to summarize and interpret current and projected company financial position for management.Monitors compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and company procedures.Assists higher level accountants in a variety of accounting assignments including the preparation, analysis, review, verification and reconciliation of various records, financial reports and statements.May respond to rate and budget questions and provide explanations to ensure management understanding.May provide audit support for government audit requests for financial data, methodology and applicability under appropriate government regulations.Reviews, investigates, and corrects errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports.Initiates, modifies, documents, and coordinates implementation of accounting control procedures.Other duties as assigned.Basic QualificationsBachelor's degree (BS/BA) in Accounting or Finance from four-year college or university; or zero to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Basic understanding and practical use of concept and terminology associated with professional area. Actively engaged in learning CAS, FAR and GAAP requirements as related to the position. Looks for ways to improve and promote quality. Manages competing demands while meeting commitments. Works within the highest level of integrity, ethics and safety. Operates under general direction and exercises guided judgment. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, auditors and, customers Strong written and verbal communication skills. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software; Accounting software; Internet software and Database software. Must have excellent written and verbal communication ksills and the ability to communicate with all levels of personnel.
