Cardiac Cath Lab Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, ARNP or Physician Assistant, PA-C)

RESPONSIBLE TO: Administratively to the Department manager or Advanced Practice Provider lead; Medically to the clinic Medical Director

Job Summary Advance Practice Provider (ARNP or PA-C) in the Cath Lab and Interventional Radiology will function as a member of the Cardiac Cath Lab team, managing patients in the Cath Lab and Cardiology clinic. The APP functions independently in a staff position to implement the role of expert practitioner, consultant, educator, and researcher within the specialized area of Cardiology. The APP possesses and exhibits a high degree of knowledge, skill and competence in the provision of health care directly to the patient, family or community, or indirectly through guidance of care by other professional personnel. The APP performs within the scope of licensure and in accordance with department, hospital and university policies/standards. Position is Monday – Friday day shift. No holidays or call.

Job Duties Major Responsibilities • Involved in procedures (TVP, RHC, LHC, and PCIs). With focus on Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). • The APP needs to be willing to scrub in with us and assist us as a secondary operator during PCIs. • The APP will be trained for rotational atherectomy and other specialized procedures. • The APP will round with the inpatient cardiology team between 8-11, when there is no case in the lab, and identify cath cases with the team. • APP visit patients the emergency room. • Write consult note, place orders for any diagnostic imaging needed pre-procedure • Provides comprehensive assessments of patients • Implement therapeutic intervention for specific conditions when appropriate. • Exercise judgement on problems requiring consultation, referral, or evaluation by the supervising Cardiologist or other health care professionals. • APP to triage phone calls from RN/support staff regarding patients throughout the day • Place pre-procedure orders for the upcoming weeks cases for all interventional and structural cases being performed by our team’s MDs. • Ensure all referrals and APP inbox is completed timely • Ensure all patients have been discharged or transferred off the service appropriately. • Obtains and records medical histories, performs physical examinations, orders and interprets diagnostic tests, establishes diagnosis and follows current standards of practice for prescribing medications and/or establishing treatment protocols. Recognizes own limitations and consults when appropriate. • Participates in an interdepartmental effort to facilitate a safe environment for staff and patient care. • Delegates tasks and duties for the purpose of coordinating effective and efficient health care. • Supports and advocates the mission and objectives of the medical center and division and assists in interpreting these to patients, visitors, and the community. • Performs Other Related Duties, working to the top of licensure. Job-Specific Requirements

Regulatory Requirements • Licensure as either an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) in the State of Washington; or a Physician's Assistant (PA) in the State of Washington, or equivalent legal license/certification; must be eligible to receive hospital staff appointments for adjunct staff membership by the organized medical staff of the hospital under Medical Staff By-Laws for Hospital-based positions. Language Skills • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Other Skills • Basic computer knowledge including voice recognition, email, electronic medical record, and word processing skills.
