Amazon Principal Strategic Bus Dev, AWS SBD in Seattle, Washington


AWS is seeking an Internationally-focused Principal level Strategy and Business Development leader to join our team. This is a unique opportunity to join a centralized corporate business development team that manages strategic partnerships across all of Amazon. As a Principal Strategy and Business Development Leader you will be responsible for generating, managing, and executing complex and high impact partnership activities while having a strong technical aptitude to identify best in class partnerships for Amazon Web Services (AWS). This includes managing relationships and negotiations for partnership deals which are unconventional in nature, need a centralized advocate, and/or have broader implications to AWS and other Amazon business units.

This role involves generating, managing, and executing complex and high-impact partnership activities. You will also need a strong technical aptitude to identify best-in-class partnerships for Amazon Web Services (AWS). This includes managing unconventional relationships and negotiations for partnership deals, as well as serving as a centralized advocate and considering the broader implications for AWS and other Amazon business units.

This key role will be highly visible at the most senior levels of AWS and Amazon. You will need to work collaboratively with internal management teams to understand relative advantages and risks, determine if and when major features should be included in existing roadmaps, and stay informed on current trends around innovation, consolidation, and customer adoption. You will dive deep, provide thoughtful technical analysis, and be adaptable and action-oriented, focused on quickly gaining enough context to enable informed decision-making. Identifying and executing strategic partnerships is our primary objective.

Key job responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include the following:

  • Take the lead to identify, evaluate, negotiate, and manage partnerships that can involve marketing, content, commerce, and technology components.

  • Ability to assess technical feasibility for our AWS business.

  • Evaluate the economic and strategic cost-benefit of partnerships.

  • Lead cross-functional teams including Product, Operations, Engineering, Legal, Finance, Tax, Accounting, and senior management to execute on the relationships.

  • Develop best practices to foster, manage, and track opportunities.

  • Support the strategic objectives and interests of Amazon’s business teams on a global basis.

Basic Qualifications

  • 7+ years of developing, negotiating and executing business agreements experience

  • 7+ years of business development, partnership management, or sourcing new business experience

  • 7+ years of professional or military experience

  • Experience developing and executing on GTM strategies that are large in scope

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Engineering or proven technical acumen

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing, deploying and managing AI products at scale

  • Experience interfacing with customers (Enterprise, SMB, and Startups) and ability to convert customer requirements to high level architecture solutions to build on

  • End-to-end negotiation experience, including identifying, developing, and executing successful partnerships such as large scale marketing deals, complex digital media transactions, and strategic technology relationships.

  • MBA from a top-tier program

  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively while applying sound business judgment and quantitative analytics.

  • Thought leader with a solid understanding of advertising technologies and their intersection with commerce.

  • Excellent oral and written skills to communicate complex issues and influence others internally and externally.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability gain respect of senior management and external executives.

  • Ability to build and maintain a network of relationships which facilitate deal flow.

  • Self-starter who can excel in a fast-paced and fluid environment.

  • Competency with internet, mobile and cloud technologies.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $153,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $254,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
