Blue Origin LLC Senior Thermal Protection Systems Engineer - Space Systems Development in Seattle, Washington

SSD develops next-generation concepts and systems to advance our future of living and working in space sustainably. As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers you will be responsible for developing thermal protection systems (TPS) materials and processes, and delivering flight hardware for re-entry systems. You will leverage your knowledge and expertise to define TPS materials requirements, devise development plans, procure materials and equipment, orchestrate testing, characterize material returned from flight, and transition the materials and processes to production at scale within the TPS manufacturing unit. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with a concentration in a relevant engineering field (materials, chemical, me 10+ years experience in materials and/or process technology development of high temperature materials Experience with authoring and reviewing test plans, process specifications, part drawings, reports, and other documents to ensure compliance with design requirements Experience conducting tests, reviewing test data and performing post-testing analysis Ability to communicate technical concepts and results to program, manufacturing, and engineering stakeholders Able to perform failure analysis of materials and root cause corrective action analysis of manufacturing processes Very customer focused (internal and external) with strong verbal and written communication skills Ability to work cooperatively with teams of diverse skills across large geographic distances Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion Willingness and ability to travel to manufacturing and test sites within the U.S. to oversee TPS development ( Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Preferred Qualifications Masters or PhD from an accredited institution with a concentration in a relevant engineering discipline (materials, chemical, mechanical, or aerospace) or physical sciences Experience in development of TPS materials from conceptualization to flight hardware. Experience with the development and/or manufacturing of PICA variants Experience with the development and/or manufacturing of structural ablative material Experience with Design for Manufacturability Experience running a small team of technicians, designers, and engineers Experience in the procurement of manufacturing and/or test equipment for TPS materials Extensive knowledge of testing and physical characterization methods for TPS materials Experience in selection of materials and surface preparation for bonding assemblies Experience managing projects within budget and on schedule Experience working with manufacturing, design engineering, and other stakeholders to facilitate production of parts and integration of subassemblies, assemblies, subsystems, and systems Compensation range for on site CO applicants is $125,480-$175,672 Compensation range for on site WA applicants is $136,467-$191,053 Compensation range for on site CA applicants is $136,467-$191,053 Other site ranges may differ Inclusivity Statement Don't meet all desired requirements?
