Amazon Software Development Manager, Alexa Smart Properties (ASP) in Seattle, Washington

Description

Want to join a startup team building new Alexa experiences for hospitality and other out of home segments? Customers love the convenience of Alexa, and many hotels, hospitals and senior living facilities have chosen to add Echo to their rooms so customers can access Alexa when on the road.

We are looking for a passionate and hard-working Software Development Manager who has experience building innovative and mission critical applications that customers love. You will lead a team of talented engineers to deliver Alexa experiences to hotel guests, out of home segments and capabilities for the properties owners to efficiently manage fleets of Alexa devices.

Key job responsibilities

You will build new services and experiences from ground up, will be a technical leader and have significant impact on the design, architecture, and implementation of Alexa features that are used every day by people you know. You are passionate about coaching, mentoring and continuously investment in creating an exceptional engineering team.

The ideal candidate is passionate about Alexa and has a demonstrated track record of success in delivering new features and products. You take a pragmatic and iterative approach to building software: you have an ability to simplify and get things done, and love experimentation and rapid iterations on the new concepts. You are a focused, thoughtful leader of your team who works effectively with external and internal partners. You are highly quantitative, and have great judgment and passion for building a great customer experience.

About the team

We are the Alexa Smart Properties team. Our charter is to provide delightful, voice-first experience in consumer-facing living spaces such as hotels, vacation rentals, apartment complexes, assisted living and much more. We aim to provide magical Alexa experience for our customers most of whom never interacted with Alexa before to drive deeper long-term engagement with Alexa, smart home and Amazon.

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

Seattle, WA, USA

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • 4+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

  • Bachelor's degree

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $148,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
