Amazon Systems Development Engineer in Seattle, Washington

Description

The SMAC Range Team is hiring for a Systems Development Engineer to support Simple Storage Service (S3), Glacier, Crypto, and Identity, Directory, and Access Services (IDAS)! You'll design, deploy, monitor, and automate infrastructure, tools and systems to provide a highly-available and resilient platform for our customers' and our team's workloads. Engineers on this diverse team enjoy diving deep painful operations and defining scalable and reliable implementations which continually raise the bar for improving the customer experience.

Would you like to implement innovative cloud computing solutions and solve the world's most complex technical problems? Do you have a deep passion and desire to engineer and operate the world's largest cloud computing infrastructure to build a better world for future generations?

Managing trillions of objects in storage, retrieving them in sub-x ms, building software that deploys to tens of thousands of hosts, achieving 99.999999999% (you didn’t read that wrong, that’s 11 nines!) durability. These are just a few of the numbers that give you a sense of the scale of the exciting problems you will find every day working in S3 and Glacier. Amazon S3 powers businesses across the globe that make the lives of consumers better daily and our team is bringing that capability to US Intelligence Agencies.

The SMAC Range Team supports S3, Glacier, Crypto, and IDAS. This breadth offers a unique perspective enabling our team to drive cross organization initiatives to remove operational hurdles, optimize software delivery, and remove bottle necks felt by all of AWS.

This position requires that the candidate selected must currently possess and maintain an active Top Secret security clearance. The position further requires that, after start, the selected candidate obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph or commensurate clearance for each government agency for which they perform AWS work.

Key job responsibilities

  • Identify and solve ambiguous problems streamlining the operations and maintenance of S3, Glacier, Crypto, and IDAS services in our ADC and GovCloud regions.

  • Design, deploy, monitor, and automate infrastructure, tools and systems to provide a highly-available and resilient platform for our customers' and our team's workloads.

  • Mentor and share your knowledge of the most effective performance, scalability, architecture, and engineering patterns and methods.

  • This position involves on-call responsibilities, typically for one week in every six to eight. We don’t like getting paged in the middle of the night or on the weekend, so we work to ensure that our systems are fault tolerant. When we do get paged, we work together to resolve the root cause so that we don’t get paged for the same issue twice.

This is an opportunity to operate and engineer systems on a massive scale, and to gain top-notch experience in cloud computing. You'll be surrounded by people who are smart, passionate about cloud computing, and believe that world class service is critical to customer success. You will be able to measure your success by its visible impact on the efficiency and effectiveness of government services for our nation.
