POSITION SUMMARY & SCOPE

Marriott International operates, franchises and licenses over 8,500 hotels and branded residential properties around the world under 31 brands, including the Ritz-Carlton, W Hotels, St. Regis and Westin brands.

This Assistant Manager, Legal Services position will support attorneys in Marriott’s Law Department on asset management matters for all Marriott-branded managed, franchise and residential projects in Asia Pacific excluding China (APEC). The APEC asset management practice group in the Law Department works closely with the asset management and area teams to safeguard the value of Marriott’s hotel agreements governing Marriott’s management of hotel properties and the use of its trademarks, programs and services.

The position will be based in Singapore and will report to a Vice President & Senior Counsel, Asset Management attorney.

EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS

The primary responsibilities for this position are to provide legal support on a variety of projects, such as renewals of hotel agreements, amendments to hotel agreements, assignments and dispute resolution. These include:

  • Preparing initial drafts of management, franchise, residential and various other hotel-related agreements under the direction of an attorney.

  • Coordinating with external legal counsel on due diligence and other forms of legal advice sought under an attorney’s supervision.

  • Leading the closing of transactions by managing the execution of agreements, obtaining internal powers of attorney and other required authorizations.

  • Maintaining knowledge database for current agreements and related standard forms, alternative provisions and legal research.

  • Liaising with internal business clients.

  • Responding to miscellaneous management, franchise and residential project issues with oversight by an attorney.

CANDIDATE PROFILE - KEY TALENTS AND EXPERIENCE DESIRED

Successful candidates should possess the following experience and skills:

Experience and Education

  • 4+ years of work experience as a paralegal / legal manager handling commercial contracts, either in a law firm or law department of a multi-national corporation OR 1+ years of work experience as an attorney, in a transactional or corporate practice in a law firm.

  • At least a legal diploma (or equivalent). Law degree not required but will be considered an advantage.

Skills and Competencies

  • Diligence, dependability and good work ethic, with a strong attention to detail.

  • Good project management and time management skills, with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and also as part of a team, adaptable to different working styles and changing work demands.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate and develop positive, professional working relationships with team members as well as internal clients.
