Job Summary

Assists in sterile compounding, drug preparation, drug storage, drug distribution, drug inventory, and required record keeping under the supervision of a Pharmacist. Maintains confidentiality when dealing with all customers. Must utilize effective problem solving skills as appropriate. Conveys enthusiasm and sincerity and promotes Avera and its services in a positive manner to all customers. Supports Avera Health/Avera McKennan through the daily application of our mission, vision, core values and social principles while providing quality care and service to our patients, their families, coworkers, physicians, volunteers, and the communities we serve. Must be flexible to change and have the ability to work effectively with Safety Principles. Coordinates work flow with other team members to ensure a productive and efficient environment. May be involved on organization committees. Able to deal with phone conversations, correspondence, or direct contact with people about billing issues. Working knowledge of drug purchasing, insurance, Medicare and basic accounting principles is encouraged. Must be able to mentor new pharmacy technicians through the training process.

Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • Completion of Pharmacy Technician Vocational Technical program preferred.

  • Six months of Avera Health Pharmacy Technician Experience OR one year of experience as a certified pharmacy technician at an outside organization required. Certification/Licensure/Registrations

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician by the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board required.

  • Registered and in good standing with the South Dakota Board of Pharmacy as a licensed Pharmacy Technician required.

Pay

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience. 

  • $19.25 - $27.00 per hour
