Position Overview & Responsibilities:

The Assistant Feed Mill Manager is responsible for supervising and coordinating feed mill operations during their assigned shift. This role ensures efficient production of high-quality feed products, adherence to safety and quality standards and smooth operations of machinery and equipment. The Assistant Feed Mill Manager acts as the primary point of contact for shift staff, providing guidance, support and oversight to ensure optimal performance and productivity. The Assistant Feed Mill Manager will also provide general support to and serve as the point of contact in the absence of the Feed Mill Plant Manager.

Major Areas of Accountability:

ASSIST PLANT MANAGER

  • Be cross trained in the following areas as a backup and a trainer for new staff:

  • Grinding

  • Batching

  • Pelleting

  • Receiving

  • Bin Management

  • Load out

  • Ensure consistency and quality standards are met in the following areas:

  • Grinding

  • Batching

  • Pelleting

  • Receiving

  • Bin Management

  • Load out

  • Perform and document product quality control processes as specified.

  • Assist in scheduling preventative maintenance on milling equipment.

  • Diagnose feed processing problems and make any necessary equipment adjustments.

  • Perform daily inventory reconciliation.

  • Manage daily ingredient inventories/submit ingredient orders.

  • Ensure inventory management SOP is met.

  • Responsible for the entering and printing of feed ingredient purchase orders and receipt of goods.

  • Maintain formula files and reconcile drug usage on a daily basis.

  • Submit ingredient and feed samples to lab and record results.

  • Adhere to all safety protocols and advocate for a safe work environment.

  • Participate in Safety Committee and conduct monthly department safety meetings.

  • Assist mill operations in diagnosing feed processing problems and make any necessary equipment adjustments.

  • Responsible for all record keeping and ingredient audits required for HACCP Certification.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by Feed Plant Manager.

  • Support Plant Manager to improve processes and support company initiatives.

    DRIVER MANAGEMENT/ EMPLOYEE DEVELOPMENT

  • Assist in training new drivers/haulers as directed by Plant Manager

    FEED DELIVERY

  • Assist Plant Manager in scheduling daily feed delivery runs to reflect an organized and efficient delivery scheduling according to feed orders and plant requirements.

  • Work with Feed Ordering Department on changes, retrievals and overruns as directed by Plant Manager.

    STAFF DEVELOPMENT

  • Provide input and direction in the recruitment process

  • Assist in development and supervision of mill employees

  • Participate in development and execution of a strategic staffing plan for the Feed Mill.

  • Assist in employee development training programs and monitor the use and effectiveness of the same.

  • Utilize individual employee development planning processes to build and maximize human capital through use of the management development courses and regular performance feedback.

    Education, Training, and Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum formal education required: High School

  • Minimum number of years of prior job experience required: Minimal, 1-3 years. Previous management or feed delivery operations or related areas preferred.

  • Other Technical Skills required: Proficient in Microsoft word, Access, Excel, Outlook, and strong 10-Key skills

    Specialized or Motorized Equipment and/or Tools:

    This position will require operating a company vehicle, or occasional mileage reimbursement. Any employment offer for this position is contingent upon the review of your motor vehicle record (MVR). The MVR will be reviewed to determine insurability based on CFF's insurance carrier and company policy.

    Vehicle Licensing Requirements: Class D and proof of insurance
