What this job involves -The Instrumentation Technician oversees the daily operation of the campus systems, utilities, and process equipment. Utilizes the site BMS to ensure systems are operated within design parameters in the most energy efficient manner. The Instrumentation Technician manages outside BMS contract service providers, assists in controls troubleshooting and takes appropriate actions to protect equipment and personnel when systems are not functioning properly. This position requires a high level of technical expertise with a variety of building and process systems. The individual in this role must be available for on-call work.What is your day to day?
Troubleshoot building and process automation from basic to advanced controlTroubleshoot digital communications used in automation and control systemTroubleshoot field and test instrumentsInstall, troubleshoot, and repair campus systems, utility, and process equipment & instrumentationFine tune loops to achieve better environmental control as well as to save energyTroubleshoot, repair, and verify operation of the SCADA remote monitoring and control system for campus systems, utility, and process equipmentWork on Siemens Building Automation System - Installing physical devices / instruments, connecting them to field panels, building points and graphics, trending points, alarm management, field troubleshooting etc.Interact with other departments to schedule activities around the production schedules of the cGMP Manufacturing and Process Development departments. Schedule self-performed work assigned at beginning of month and due by end of month.Assist team members during startup of equipment to identify and correct problems that may arise during troubleshootingEvaluate control system performance and make recommendations to optimize process efficiency, reliability, and safetyKnowledge and hands on experience with control and simulation techniques and strategiesPerform troubleshooting, PMs or Calibrations, and physical repair work along with team as needed by testing and calibrating electrical, mechanical, electromechanical, and analytical instruments & equipment for conformance to established standards using engineering principlesExamples include but not limited to: WFI, Clean Steam, HVAC, Compressed Gases, Waste Treatment, CIP, Autoclaves, Glassware Washers, vessels, Cold/Warm equipment & rooms, Control Systems, and Aseptic Filling systemsProvide responsive customer support with emphasis on customer satisfactionProvide complete and accurate documentationKnow how to read and interpret prints, schematic drawings, manuals, and specification documents; mark up and create red line drawings.Maintain trained and certified status as required in cGMP, GLP, HR, and industry procedures as requiredSupport internal, Client, and Regulatory Agency audits as requiredWork with shipping to send out equipment or standard for offsite vendor service and track statusContribute to the creation of maintenance and calibration procedures and update existing procedures to match best practices and lessons learnedIdentify and order spare or replacement parts for equipment utilizing inventory management systemRecommend facility improvements to meet OSHA safety, ISPE, or FDA guidelinesAny and all other duties assigned
System Monitoring
As required, review of system operations reports to ensure that systems are functioning properly and not wasting energy by running redundant equipment when not required.
Physical Job Requirements -
Overhead work / working at heights requiredMust be able to work in a clean room manufacturing environment which includes gowning and respirator requirementsEnvironmental conditions will vary based on the job being performed. Work may take place in either the calibration lab and/or in the plant depending upon the job requirements. Must be capable of working outdoors in all types of weather conditions.Skilled and physically able to operate electric hand tools, work on a ladder, carry tools, lift, and carry heavy loads, and operate required equipment
Desired experience and technical skillsRequired
10+ years working with electrical or instrumentation/controls systems.Knowledge of the following BMS platforms but not limited to Siemen's, DeltaV, Honeywell, and Allan Bradley.Proficient in basic computer application software such as MS Office, Outlook, CMMS systems, etc.Adequate skills to perform required job functions with minimal supervisionSubject to 24-hour availabilityValid driver's license
Preferred
Conflict resolution skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills.Engineering degreeTrade license, apprenticeshipAbility to program Controls (BAS/BMS) systems.Conflict resolution skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills.Able to work in a customer service environment interacting with the client. Able to stay on task and work independently with minimal direction and supervision.Good interpersonal skills, ability to communicate well in both oral and written reports. Leads by example.
