UPMC Invasive Cardiac Technologist in Somerset, Pennsylvania

You can be an integral part of our UPMC providing care for patients in need of diagnosis and treatment. Work closely with our Cardiologists assisting them in providing lifesaving treatments for our patients using the latest techniques and technology for coronary artery disease, peripheral vascular disease, cardiomyopathy, valvular disease, congenital heart disease, and arrhythmias. Be a part of an experienced, competent team that works together to identify ways to offer compassionate care in an efficient, fast paced environment. Our Cath Lab team has positive working relationships with the physicians and ancillary departments within Somerset hospital. We offer an extensive orientation program that will ensure your success in the department!

This position will be working daylight hours with weekend and holiday call responsibilities. 30-minute response time is required for call requirement.

  • $10,000 for a two-year commitment to UPMC!

Performs imaging procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. Competently performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures all images within his/her area of responsibility are properly coded and tracked through the PACS, and are properly networked to appropriate electronic record for archival and interpretation, and all charges are adequately entered for the procedures performedMaintains continuing education and competency requirements for position

  • Demonstrates a strong ability to interact with both patients and co-workers, while displaying a high level of caring, listening, dignity and respect. Able to work as team member within the department and all other departments to expedite patient care efficiently

  • Identifies all patients properly by using two patient identifiers and utilizes universal protocol when performing procedures. Reviews patient history and assesses physician orders, applying specific departmental protocols for optimal results in the acquisition of data. Documents patient history in electronic record as required

  • Maintains point of care testing standards, including daily quality control, for devices used for procedures

  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate instructions to patients in a clear and concise manner and explain procedures to help allay the patient?s fears and solicit their cooperation

  • Demonstrate proper positioning and appropriate radiographic techniques for all diagnostic and interventional procedures. Exhibits a clear understanding of correct patient preparation, equipment operations and patient monitoring systems

  • Demonstrates competency in functioning in the first assist position

  • Fosters an environment that supports aseptic technique during procedures and patient safety with the incorporation of a time-out process

  • Administers contrast under the direction of the procedure physician

  • Support other departments as directed or assignedMust demonstrate a basic knowledge of the operation of both equipment and suppliesSome responsibilities may not be applicable due to specific job locations

  • Provides stand by call coverage, as scheduled, in accordance with system-wide stand by call procedure/policy

  • Practices with attentiveness to radiation safety for the patient as well as others in the procedure room including appropriate use of lead shielding and monitoring devices. Assures documentation of patient radiation exposure in electronic record.

Graduate of an ARRT approved school of Radiologic Technology (RT-R) or Invasive Cardiovascular Specialist (RCIS).

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • ARRT Certificate OR Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist OR Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist Echocardiograph and Ultrasound

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) ACLS certification is desired upon hire. Successful completion of ACLS certification required within orientation period.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
