Job Duties:

The DRS Field Rehabilitation Services Division a division within the Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS). DRS assists individuals with disabilities to make informed choices that will maximize their employment through coordinated service delivery. DRS staff will assist the Workforce Network to deliver quality workforce services to individuals with disabilities who want to work and employers seeking to hire them to the extent that this provides benefit to the DRS program.

Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) is seeking an Employment Services Spec Sr for its South Boston and its Danville Location. In compliance with Federal, State and Agency policy and procedures works closely with all Counselors and/or Evaluators and in partnership with persons with physical, mental or emotional disabilities.

Provide case management assistance with comprehensive vocational rehabilitation services which result in employment and enhanced independent living. To meet the expectations of the Employment Services Specialist Senior, the incumbent must have access to personally identifiable and confidential information about agency consumers and/or agency staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will:

Knowledge/Experience - Some training and or experience in human service delivery methods. Some knowledge of the social, economic, medical and psychological issues which impact persons with disabilities; interviewing, evaluation and counseling techniques; methods and tools for career counseling and exploration; ADA compliance requirements. Working knowledge of Windows based computer software or similar word processing software.

Abilities/Skills - Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals from varying social and economic environments; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to interpret and apply established policies and procedures in the provision of services; to monitor employment opportunities through contacts with businesses and other organizations within the community; to organize and manage multiple and sometimes unrelated responsibilities in a timely manner; to prioritize duties and exercise good judgement following established policy and procedures; interviewing and data collection techniques.

Additional Considerations:

Demonstrated ability to lead or facilitate instructional or workshop sessions.
