Job Description:

Job Objectives

Responsible for supervision and business growth of local specialty pharmacy locations within a given area. Responsible for improving unit sales, profits, and image through overall business development and the selection, training, and development of personnel. Provides clinical expertise to locations within the areas; facilitates and fosters a culture in which all Walgreens businesses form a cohesive team that supports overall business growth within an area and drives corporate initiatives.

Provides coaching and guidance to empower Local Specialty Pharmacy Managers to drive pharmacy and healthcare initiatives, driving employee engagement and increasing overall performance and developing future leaders.

Responsible for ensuring a high quality, distinctive and delightful customer experience across the area.

Job Responsibilities/Tasks

Operations

  • Ensures execution of Signature Pharmacy Health and Wellness programs and corporate strategic initiatives through focused store visits, and coaching of Local Specialty Pharmacy Managers. Through collaboration with the Director Pharmacy and Retail Operations, holds Local Specialty Pharmacy Managers accountable for execution and performance on healthcare strategies.

  • Manages performance of local specialty pharmacy through metrics and reports, using feedback from Local Specialty Pharmacy Manager to target specific pharmacies.

  • Fields and resolves clinical communications escalated from specialty pharmacies; resolves appropriate patient complaints that are clinical in nature. Understands regulatory and compliance issues and their impact on local specialty pharmacy.

Region Development

  • Drives area Healthcare development and pull-through activities for local specialty pharmacies. Works with Healthcare Supervisor to identify opportunities for growth with respective sales team leaders, and maintain existing relationships with hospital systems.

  • Attends events that enhance local health and wellness relationships.

Business Performance Management

  • Works with Financial Analyst and Healthcare Supervisor to review area healthcare financials and KPIs to create action plans, conduct business forecasting and analysis for business planning sessions. Partners with Director Retail and Pharmacy Operations and Healthcare Supervisor to develop pharmacy improvement plans and holds Local Specialty Pharmacy Manager accountable for execution of plan.

  • Provides input and insights to Regional Healthcare Director on Pharmacy Health and Wellness initiatives and successes.

Business Planning

  • Provides input to Director Pharmacy and Retail Operations on strategic priorities to inform market plans.

  • Collaborates with Director Pharmacy and Retail Operations and Healthcare Supervisor in developing plans to increase specialty pharmacy revenue and expand healthcare services in the area.

People & Performance Management

  • Manages relationships with local schools, colleges and professional organizations.

  • Drives performance management process for Local Specialty Pharmacy Managers.

  • Focuses on coaching and developing Local Specialty Pharmacy Managers to enable execution of pharmacy responsibilities; Drives the Pharmacy Manager talent pipeline, identifying and coaching high potential Pharmacy Managers, and managing Performance Improvement Plans for Pharmacists.

  • Ensures compliance with all corporate policies, applicable employment laws, and is consistently fair in the treatment of all team members.

  • Ensures compliance on clinical quality related events, including coaching, training, and through resolution.

Training & Personal Development

  • Participates in training and supports training efforts where necessary.

  • Seeks self-development by monitoring own performance, setting high personal standards, increasing knowledge of retail, pharmacy and management fields, seeking and sharing best practices.

Communications

  • Cascades healthcare related information from conference calls, regional meetings, and corporate initiatives, including information on regulatory changes. Reviews and cascades pharmacy related emails from Corporate and Regional Vice Presidents to Local Specialty Pharmacy Managers.

  • Communicates regularly with managers and team members through one-on-one discussions, group meetings and in writing to keep them apprised, solicit input, answer questions and ensuring communication is open.

External Basic Qualifications:

  • BS in Pharmacy or Pharmacist Degree from an accredited educational institution (internal candidates); BS in Pharmacy or Pharmacist Degree from an accredited educational institution and 5 years of retail pharmacy management experience (external candidates).

  • Current pharmacist licensure in the states within the area and Illinois, or willing and able to obtain state licensure within 12 months of position start date.

  • Immunization Certification (internal candidates) or willing to obtain certification within 12 months of hire date (external candidates).

  • 3 years of combined experience as a pharmacy manager, registered store manager or registered District Manager (internal candidates).

  • A performance rating of “achieving expectations” or higher for last performance evaluation, and no written disciplinary actions in the last 12 months (internal candidates).

  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Willingness to work flexible schedule including extended days, evenings, and weekend hours.

  • Willingness to travel 75% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).
