We are currently seeking a Plumber and Steamfitter to join our team within our Springfield Assembly Plant. NOTE: Must be able to work any shift. STARTING HOURLY RATE IS $34 per hour.
Pipefitters make, install and maintain all kinds of pressure piping, including piping for hot water and steam boilers; heating systems; hydraulics and pneumatics and almost any type of system that employs piping. Pipefitters cut and weld metals and work with valves and pressurized water, gas, steam, oil and other materials. Journeyman pipefitters have achieved a level of training that allows them to work safely on all types of piping in both residential and commercial settings.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Lay out, assemble, install, and maintain pipe systems, pipe supports, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial production and processing systems. Cut, thread, and hammer pipe to specifications, using tools such as saws, cutting torches, and pipe threaders and benders. Assemble and secure pipes, tubes, fittings, and related equipment, according to specifications, by welding, brazing, cementing, soldering, and threading joints. Attach pipes to walls, structures and fixtures, such as radiators or tanks, using brackets, clamps, tools or welding equipment. Inspect, examine, and test installed systems and pipe lines, using pressure gauge, hydrostatic testing, observation, or other methods. Measure and mark pipes for cutting and threading. Lay out full scale drawings of pipe systems, supports, and related equipment, following blueprints.
High School Diploma or GED
4 years in Apprenticeship or UAW Journeyman Card
High School Diploma or GED
Minimum 8 years’ experience as a Plumber-Steamfitter
Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Navistar does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)
Ability to walk/stand up to 10 hours per day
Ability to lift up to 40lbs
Ability to work from ladders or elevated structures
Knowledgeable and skilled in the use of all Steamfitter’s and Plumber’s tools and machines
Possess general knowledge of hot water and steam heating systems
Have a working knowledge of, and be capable of, repairing all types of air and oil operated cylinders
