This position serves our partners at the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR). MNIT DNR provides comprehensive IT operations and support services, custom application development, and dedicated support functions to an organization that manages and conserves the state’s natural resources in a way that creates a sustainable quality of life for all Minnesotans.

As a Cloud Engineer for Minnesota IT Services (MNIT) and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), you will provide planning, coordination, maintenance, and administration of MNIT DNR mission critical Windows application hosting systems, software and underlying infrastructure hosted in Microsoft Azure. A critical component of your position is the migration of local server environment regarding provisioning of services and infrastructure as well as applications into the cloud.

DNR relies on these services for business critical day to day operations and your responsibility is to keep the supported application hosting services environment operating efficiently, securely and with minimal manual manipulation. You will apply project management techniques to improve upon or resolve technical issues for Department-wide application hosting related projects, and will investigate new Cloud services, technologies, makes recommendations for change and enhancement, and maximizes technologies' potential in terms of client productivity.

This position is currently eligible for full-time telework:

  • Telework (https://mn.gov/mmb-stat/policies/1422-telework.pdf) for Minnesota IT Services allows an employee to perform work from a telework location and an employee may be required to be in the office based on business needs and other dependencies in St. Paul, Minnesota.

  • Only candidates located in Minnesota and bordering states (Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin) are telework eligible.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must clearly demonstrate these qualifications in their resume:

Position requires a minimum of four (4) years of experience planning, coordinating, maintaining and administrating cloud based technologies.

Experience must include:

  • Windows Servers experience

  • Cloud services (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS)

  • Azure or similar cloud administration experience

  • Experience with infrastructure as code technologies, such as Ansible, Cloudbolt or Azure Resource Manager

  • Understanding of and experience with networking and firewalls

  • Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties.

  • Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving.

A master’s degree in Information Technology or a related field substitutes for three (3) years of experience, OR a related bachelor’s degree substitutes for two (2) years, OR a related associate’s degree substitutes for one (1) year.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Microsoft Server and RedHat Linux

  • Experience with Azure environment

  • Experience with Azure Native Backups and Azure Security Rights

  • Scripting experience, including batch file creation, command-line registry manipulation, and command-based configuration.

  • Good understanding of Dev/Ops and cloud security
