This position exists in PERA’s member call center to deliver PERA benefit information and respond to stakeholder inquiries of a routine nature, either by phone, in person or in writing, explaining the PERA benefits and options that will meet their financial goals and needs, and helping them understand the value of retirement planning specific to PERA benefits.
In addition, the incumbent in this position may perform routine and some manual calculations; some calculations will be audited.
Once new hire training is complete, this position is approved for telework (https://mn.gov/mmb-stat/policies/1422-telework.pdf) based on the needs of the agency and other dependencies. Position will primarily telework with the occasional need to be on site and in office as scheduled. PERA’s office is located in St. Paul, MN.
Once new hire training is complete, this position is approved for Only candidates located in Minnesota and bordering states (Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin) are telework eligible.
This posting will be used to fill two (2) Retirement Services Specialist positions.
Minimum Qualifications

One and half (1.5) years of experience in retirement planning, program administration, or financial services.
*A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting or Finance may substitute for one (1) year of experience.
Years of experience must clearly demonstrate the following:
Advanced interpersonal skills and excellent written/verbal communication skills demonstrating the ability to provide customer service, communicate comprehensive benefit information, and counseling to a wide variety of stakeholders
Analyticalandproblemsolvingskillssufficient toevaluatefacts,drawconclusions,andofferrecommendations
Experience providing explanation of benefits or administering employee benefits
Abilitytoperformandauditroutinemathematicalcalculations
ExperienceusingMicrosoftOffice software
Ability to work effectively and efficiently independently and in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications
Working knowledge of public pension plans
Experience working in a high volume call center with the primary focus of delivering customer service and administering retirement benefits, including benefit plan policy interpretations and explanations
General knowledge of Minnesota Statutes Chapters 353 and 356, relating to benefits and membership eligibility of the Association
Knowledge of the 45 Police and Fire Relief Association, and Statewide Volunteer Firefighter (SVF) pension plans
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting or Finance
Physical Requirements
Requires occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as file folders, ledgers, and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of movement is often necessary in carrying out job duties.
