The Division of Medicaid is looking for a Research Analyst Senior to support our value-based care initiatives in the Bureau of Population Health.

The data that will be analyzed will include Medicaid claims data, including claims for healthcare encounters and prescriptions, and data from public data sources such as Census data. Additionally, this position will collaborate with stakeholders to support the Healthy Connections Value Care Program.

The ideal candidate will have experience analyzing health-related data, has an eye for detail, and is a quick learner.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

  • Develops research methodology, procedures and tools for data collection.

  • Writes and/or designs and modifies computer applications, programs and/or databases to perform data analysis.

  • Edits, modifies, and compiles statistical data from manual count and computer programs.

  • Analyzes, updates, and reviews data to determine statistical accuracy of data files and reports.

  • Identifies erroneous or questionable data and contacts providers to verify and correct.

  • Interprets trends and results of studies.

  • Develops conclusions, makes recommendations, and drafts report of findings into appropriate format for various users.

  • Disseminates research results in written, narrative, graphic, and tabular form and makes oral presentations of findings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Good knowledge of research methods.Typically gained by completion of at least two college-level statistical research methods courses (six semester credit hours or nine quarter credit hours) covering the elements of research methods and techniques including reliability and validity, measurement error, variance, methods of analysis, probability means, proportions and samplingORcompletion of one college-level statistical research methods course (three semester credit hours or five quarter credit hours) covering reliability and validity, measurement error and variance COUPLED WITH approximately one year of work experience gathering, sampling and analyzing data. Experience does not include work coupled with degree/school requirements ie: thesis.

  • Good knowledge of principles of statistics.Typically gained by completion of two upper division college-level statistics courses (six semester credit hours or nine quarter credit hours) covering: estimation and tests of hypotheses; sampling and multiple regression and correlation; analysis of variance and covariance; introduction to experimental design; and analysis of unbalanced data for the fixed modelORcompletion of one upper division college-level statistics course (three semester credit hours or five quarter credit hours) covering estimation and tests of hypotheses and sampling and multiple regression and correlation COUPLED WITH approximately one year of work experience applying statistical techniques including sampling and surveying and measurements of dispersion. Experience does not include work coupled with degree/school requirements ie: thesis.

  • Good knowledge of sampling theory and probability theory.Typically gained by completion of two upper division college-level courses covering sampling theory and probability theoryORsuccessful completion of specialized training (at least one week duration) focusing on sampling theory and probability theory COUPLED WITH at least one year of work experience defining populations, drawing samples and testing hypotheses testing. Experience does not include work coupled with degree/school requirements ie: thesis.

  • Experience writing analytical (research) reports or materials.Typically gained by at least one year of work experience analyzing data, drawing conclusions, and writing reports or portions of reports supporting research results.

  • Experience compiling and analyzing statistical data and drawing conclusions.Typically gained by at least one year of work experience compiling and analyzing statistical data and drawing conclusions.

  • Experience using statistical software or spreadsheet software to perform statistical analysis.Typically gained by completion of at least one college-level course (three semester credit hours or five quarter credit hours) using statistical software or spreadsheet softwareORat least one year of work experience using statistical software such as SAS, SPSS, SPSSX, STATA, Number Cruncher, or similar software or spreadsheet software.

  • Experience interpreting and communicating (orally and in writing) statistical material into information usable by a target audience.Typically gained by at least one year of work experience requiring interpretation of statistical material such as research results, laws, policies, procedures, rules, or regulations and communicating (orally and in writing) that information so it is easily understood by the general population.

    Below is preferred experience. It is not required for the position but applicants with this experience may receive consideration over other applicants.

  • Demonstrated experience analyzing health-related data such as medical claims data, Rx data, hospital discharge data, public health surveillance data, laboratory data.Typically gained through a degree in epidemiology or two semesters of college coursework or one year of work experience.

  • Demonstrated experience using database applications such as “SQL Developer”, statistical and data visualization software such as “R”, “SAS”, and “Tableau”.Typically gained through two semesters of college coursework or one year of work experience.

  • Demonstrated experience of working with large and complex data sets.Typically gained through two semesters of college coursework or one year of work experience.
