JOB TITLE: Maintenance - Grounds

QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Ability to read, write and follow written and oral instructions. 2. Evidence of some formal courses in horticultural subjects, or two year's experience in gardening. 3. Hold current driver license. 4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

WAGE: $15 - $18/hr.

DAYS/HOURS: Full time, 40 hours/week, DUTIES: PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Maintain and care for school grounds. 2. Prepare seeding or transplanting beds by cultivating soil and adding fertilizer or chemicals, if needed. 3. Plant seeds, bulbs, tree seedlings and shrubbery so that resulting growth will produce attractive appearance. 4. Experiment with different varieties of lawn and flower seeds to determine those best suited to the soil. 5. Prune trees and trim hedges to promote growth and improve appearance. 6. Mow lawn with a hand or power mower. 7. Connect sprinkling equipment and water lawn and flower beds. 8. Inspect flowers, shrubs and trees for evidence of insects, fungi and other pests and spray or dust chemicals on infected areas. 9. Adjust and repair such equipment as lawn mowers, sprinklers and hedge shears. 10. Shovel snow from sidewalks and driveways and spread sand, salt or ashes to prevent slipping. 11. Collect and dispose of leaves and refuse. 12. Repair outdoor chairs and benches. 13. Work inside during winter on assigned custodial jobs. 14. Perform other assigned duties as needed.
