Amazon Global Strategy Engineer - Civil, Global Engineering Strategy in Sydney, Australia

Description

The Global Engineering Strategy team (GES) is looking for a results-oriented, inventive data centre civil engineer to drive development, implementation and delivery of enterprise data centers strategies through the use of AWS infrastructure builds, which meet strict quality and performance levels across the globe.

You will help lead the engineering due diligence efforts for new and expanding regions, while maintaining the highest performance standards and utilizing innovation to reduce budgets and increase efficiency.

You will work directly with our Real Estate, Risk and Resiliency, Design and Pre-Construction teams on global designs.

Utilizing your Civil Engineer knowledge, you will assist in data center site selection, review of due diligence reports, contribute to site planning and development and play a pivotal role in the delivery of data center designs.

The Global Strategy Engineer - Civil responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with internal stakeholders during the due diligence phase to oversee the process and ensure design requirements are considered

  • Collaborating with internal teams to gather data to ensure pre-requisites for start of design stage are met.

  • Leading the predesign phase and ensuring design ready deliverables are handed over to the design team

  • Analysis of major intercepts impact to site plans and strategy

  • In conjunction with the Energy Team, work with International Utilities to understand HV/MV substation design and impacts to assess risk and impacts on our builds

  • Providing engineering design decisions to the planning team for strategic planning and region selection.

  • Collaborating with other disciplines such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, architects to assess how our various products can be deployed in that region

  • Ability to work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.

  • Escalate issues as required and communicate clearly and effectively at the appropriate level of detail with people from a wide range of technical abilities and backgrounds.

Travel will occasionally be necessary but shouldn’t be more than 25%. International support will be part of the job.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.

  • 5+ years of experience with industrial/ commercial design or experience directly related to data center infrastructure and data center planning.

  • Proficient in related civil design software such as Civil 3D or equivalent.

  • Proficient with AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, Navisworks, sketch up and MS Office Suite.

  • Proficiency in building codes, regulations, and standard including Local and international standards.

  • Proficiency in earthworks, grading, paving, storm water, utility design and landscaping.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering.

  • 8+ years of experience with industrial/ commercial design or experience directly related to data center infrastructure and data center planning.

  • Familiar with Substation design, HV/MV distribution systems.

  • Possess excellent communication skills, attention to detail, maintain high quality standards

  • Proficient in related civil design software such as Civil 3D or equivalent.

  • Proficient with AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, Navisworks, sketch up and MS Office Suite.

  • Proficiency in building codes, regulations, and standard including Local and international standards.

  • Proficiency in earthworks, grading, paving, storm water, utility design and landscaping.
