Description of Duties:

The State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) in Syracuse, NY, invites applications for a full-time Senior Staff Assistant (Health & Wellness Educator). This newly developed position will provide a holistic approach to wellness, including trainings, presentations, and outreach for the campus community. This position is responsible for inclusive education and promotion of mental health and wellbeing, stress management, alcohol & other drug prevention, sleep health, nutrition, healthy relationships, and sexual health education. The Coordinator will work closely with students, faculty, and staff to create an environment that promotes all aspects of wellness. The staff member is a key member in the Division of Student Affairs, and will report to the Director of the Counseling Center. Occasional night and weekend work. This is a temporary position funded through June 2025 with the possibility of renewal.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide students with prevention, education, and outreach services regarding wellness issues, including mental health, sexual and interpersonal violence, stress management, sleep, nutrition, and substance abuse.

  • Coordinate suicide prevention and alcohol and substance abuse prevention training for student groups, faculty, and staff.

  • Develop programs targeted towards mental health education, such as Stress Relief Days.

  • Supervise student peer ambassadors.

  • Manage SPARC and TRAC programs.

  • Design and implement educational programming that addresses sexual violence and misconduct, alcohol and other drugs, healthy relationships, holistic wellbeing, and bystander intervention.

  • Assist in food pantry initiatives to address food insecurity on campus.

  • Compile statistical reports on program activities/services and assessment of programs

  • Connect and collaborate with underrepresented and historically marginalized populations, including students who identify as BIPOC, international, first-generation, undocumented, veterans, LGBTQIA+, or students with disabilities, to advance equity.

  • Assist with planning for annual Mental Health Symposium.

  • Provide guidance for website, marketing, social media, and other outreach initiatives.

  • Assist in addressing compliance requirements in accordance with state and federal laws (i.e., Title IX, etc.) and university required community wellness programs for all incoming students.

  • Partner on health issues with campus and community stakeholders.

  • Actively participate in staff meetings and retreats, and programs within the Division of Student Affairs & Enrollment Management.

  • Assist with major College and division events and initiatives to include:

  • New and Transfer Student Orientation (August and January) including Saturday of Service

  • Facilitating a section of first-year seminar to support the transition of new students in the fall

  • Commencement (December and May)

  • Admissions events

  • Family Weekend

    Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related a field

  • 2 years of relevant experience in a college setting.

  • Previous experience in education;

  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills;

  • Strong organizational and time management skills and strong interpersonal skills;

  • Ability to relate effectively with members of the campus community;

  • Ability to function autonomously and as a team member within a collegial setting;

  • Experience using databases and other technology, particularly Microsoft Office and Teams software;

  • Able to demonstrate sound decision-making and complete tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in health promotion, social work, education, human services, or related area

  • 3 years of relevant experience in a college setting.

  • Demonstrated understanding of best practices in college health/wellness education and outreach.
