Description

The Shift Supervisor assists the Program Supervisor in the day to day operations of the program, as well as an integral role in the training and supervision of the Youth Development Professionals (YDP). In the absence of the Program Supervisor the Shift Supervisor takes on administrative and supervisory responsibilities to ensure the daily operations of the program are uninterrupted. The Shift Supervisor provides support, direction, assistance in the program, in the immediate, as it relates to supporting, making decisions, and problem solving issues and concerns as they arise in the absence of other Leadership Team Members. The schedule is set in a manner to best accommodate supervision needs for the program.

Responsibilities:

  • Uphold, support, enforce, and monitor all OCFS/Agency policy and procedures

  • Effectively demonstrate an understanding and adherence to the residential models of care (Boys Town, PEM, and TCI) through interactions with youth and supervisions/coaching staff

  • Effectively use critical thinking skills to lead the program and/or campus (ex: assistance calls) with regard to safety and security issues as they arise

  • Assist the Program Supervisor in performing all staff scheduling responsibilities Youth Development Professionals as it relates to granting time off, filling for vacant position, etc.

  • Assist in providing emergency and planned shift coverage for Youth Development Professionals and shift/program supervisor who are absent due to vacation, holidays, illness, staff shortage, etc.

  • Responsible for leading the program routine in a timely and accurate manner according to the posted program schedule/routine

  • Ensuring that all Critical Incident and Incident Report notifications are made as occurrences arise;  (e.g. families, counties, Management Team members, On-call Risk Evaluator, On-call medical and Maintenance, Directors, etc.)

  • Lead programmatic tasks (Incidents, Notifications, Shift logs etc.) or youth needs (On-call support, Resident Daily Evaluations, Point Cards, etc.). Both routine and unforeseen events and tasks   

  • Ensure the program facility itself is in the ideal position (Aesthetics, locked doors and windows, etc.)

  • Monitor all activity on paycom revelation to the position

  • Participate in the on call rotation

  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Supervisor

    Essential Job Functions:

  • Technically and physically able to provide crisis intervention including physical restraints. Restraints may include resistive force, bending, squatting, kneeling, lying down, and holding youth with force using hands, fingers, and arms

  • Ability to sit, squat, crouch and stand for elongated periods of time

  • Ability to lift 50lbs without assistance

  • Ability to lift arms over head in upward reaching motion

  • Ability to walk up and downstairs up to several times per day

  • Ability to run

     

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.  College and experience preferred

  • NYS Driver’s license with a driving record acceptable to our insurance carrier

  • In good standing as a current Youth Development Professional

  • Self-aware.  Enjoys, and is comfortable with, interacting with youth

  • Able to relate to a dynamic environment. Flexible and able to problem-solve as unanticipated challenges present themselves

  • Demonstrated ability to build positive and healthy relationships with youth, and positive and supportive relationships with coworker

  • Demonstrated ability to be organized and ability to multi-task

  • Technically and physically able to provide crisis intervention, including physical restraints. 

  • Boys Town trained and comfortable with implementing the model within program
