This position works in Tallahassee at the Russell Park FWC office as an OPSAccountant II with the potential for remote work.

The Division of Habitat & Species Conservation is comprised of six Sections and two offices.

This is a professional position in the Public Access Services Office of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The PASO office management team helps the Office and the Agency achieve its mission of conserving wildlife for their long-term well-being and the enjoyment of people. This position provides finance and budget assistance to the Business Manager and program staff in the Planning & Design section. It requires a high degree of judgment, business management skills and attention to detail.

The incumbent works as an effective member of the office management team and works independently with limited supervision. The successful candidate will have the knowledge, skills and abilities to execute duties related to accounting, purchasing, invoicing and financial oversight in accordance with State of Florida laws, standards, policies, and procedures. The major responsibilities of the position include:

Prepares and maintains complex Excel spreadsheets and charts, tracks and reconciles purchases/invoices for construction projects and other services.

Reviews and submits invoices in My Florida Market Place in an accurate and timely manner. Ensures all vendors are paid in accordance with F.S. 215.422.

Research vendor invoices for discrepancies.

Prepares journal transfers.

Assists with financial management including routing contracts, creating task assignments, change orders, contract invoices and monitoring contracts to ensure State of Florida compliance.

Responsible for maintaining contract and grant files in auditable condition.

Completes financial accounting forms accurately and submits to Finance and Accounting for entry in a timely manner.

Makes recommendations regarding accounting and finance processes for office improvement.

Makes purchases for office sub-sections utilizing State of Florida Purchasing Card.

Assists office staff with purchase orders, e-quotes, and other purchasing methods.

Provides other administrative assistance as needed.

Ability to identify math operations needed to complete accounting tasks and correctly perform calculations

Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to purchasing and budgeting for a State Agency

Ability to work independently

Ability to solve problems and make decisions

Skill in using My Florida Marketplace (Ariba On Demand) preferred

Education Requirements: Prefer a bachelor's degree from a college or university and three years of professional experience in accounting work. Experience with a State Agency preferred.Professional or nonprofessional experience as described above can substitute on a year- for-year basis for the required college education.

OPS Employment– This is a full-time OPS (Other Personnel Services) position. OPS employees are paid for the number of hours they work. OPS employees do not receive paid leave, or paid holidays. OPS staff have the potential for health insurance benefits and participation in the Deferred Compensation investment retirement program.
