JOB Description

This position plans and develops State Courts System's educational and administrative publications, including the Full Court Press and the Florida State Courts Annual Report. This responsibility includes determining content; conducting research and interviews; writing content and then getting approval from content experts; photographing relevant persons, places, and events; designing layout; and preparing documents for distribution and for use on the flcourts.org website and social media.

This position has a broad range of working contacts with judges, court administrators, OSCA and supreme court personnel, Florida court public information officers, and other court personnel across the state. The nature of the contacts is to gather information for or to interview people for articles for various publications.

MINIMUM Education and Experience Guidelines

Education: Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, or Creative Writing.

Additional relevant experience may substitute for the recommended educational level on a year-for-year basis.

Experience: Four years of related work experience in journalism, editing, or writing.

Additional relevant education may substitute for the recommended experience on a year-for-year basis, excluding supervisory experience.


Ability to conduct research.

Knowledge and understanding of the structure and operations of the Florida judicial system.

Ability to research, write, and edit court judicial branch publications and court committee reports.

Ability to apply specialized knowledge to specific issues.

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing.

Ability to work collaboratively with management and colleagues.

Ability to manage multiple and complex projects.

Special Comments

The Professional Writer works to tell the story of Florida’s judicial branch using a multi-media approach, preference will be given to candidates with proven experience using publishing software applications such as Microsoft Publisher or Adobe InDesign and graphic design software such as Canva.
