Purpose/Introduction
The Inventory Accountant position is located at The Woodlands Headquarters office and reports to the Inventory Accounting Manager/ Supervisor. This position has the unique opportunity to be exposed to all product lines at CPChem’s domestic and international locations.
Responsibilities include month/quarter close ending inventory calculations and journal entries, balance sheet account and plant inventory book-to-book and book-to-physical reconciliations, and year-end inventory financial and tax reporting for CPChem’s product inventories in accordance with company policies and accounting standards.
The accountant makes practical application of technical accounting practices and concepts, and should raise questions about unusual items and suggest possible solutions to the Inventory Accounting Manager/Supervisor.
Responsibilities
Calculate Average Acquisition Rates (i.e. product cost rates) and Inventory valuation adjustments and obtain business line approvals
Compute monthly Profit-in-Inventory adjustments
Perform quarterly Lower of Cost or Market analysis in accordance with company policy
Complete monthly/quarterly dollar and plant reconciliations by company deadlines
Prepare and record general ledger entries for month close or reconciliations in accordance with delegation of authority policy
Participate in periodic physical inventory counts at third-party warehouse locations
Assist with review and testing of SOX key controls and significant spreadsheets
Support internal and external audits of Inventory Accounting processes
Prepare various reports for Tax, Insurance and Corporate Reporting groups
Other ad-hoc or special requests as assigned by the Inventory Accounting Manager/Supervisor

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business with a strong preference in the disciplines of Accounting
A minimum of 1 year of accounting or financial analyst experience
Proficiency in Microsoft Office computer applications with a strong emphasis on Excel skills
Demonstrates the ability to develop strong working relationships with team members, colleagues and customers
Strong oral and written communication skills and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
At least 1 year of related work experience in the chemical industry
Experience with SAP FI/CO, Materials Management (MM), and Sales & Distribution (SD) modules
Blackline experience
Data analytics (e.g., PowerBI and/or Alteryx) experience
Ability to improve processes and implement changes
Demonstrates a good understanding of accounting principles, ability to apply pertinent accounting policies and practices, and can analyze issues and transactions with financial implications
