Amazon Senior Manager - Delivery Service Partner planning, DSP in Tokyo, Japan

At Amazon we are building a world class last mile operation, significantly complimented by Delivery Service Partners (DSP). Amazon works directly with DSPs to make deliveries to our customers. As a DSP, these high-performing entrepreneurs can now be their own boss managing a fleet of vans/ bikers delivering Amazon packages.

The Senior Manager, DSP Planning will be building and leading a team that owns the development and deployment for capacity planning. This role will be responsible for forecasting and allocating capacity for Delivery Service Partner (DSP) volume. Responsible for constant product improvement to ensure DSPs are set up and able to flex-up/down in-line with AMZL capacity demands. Because of the impact, this is a highly visible role with senior leaders and decision makers in Amazon operations. The incumbent will regularly lead business and planning reviews with senior operations leaders, and manage relationships and drive alignment across a variety of stakeholders – including planning, finance, fleet, expansion and the local country teams. It is also a highly innovative space requiring the incumbent to use a quantitative and analytical approach, balanced by business judgment to determine the capacity strategy, while constantly iterating on the process to drive improvements.

A successful candidate will be highly analytical, resourceful, customer-focused, team oriented, and will have an ability to work independently under time constraints to meet deadlines. They will have experience in stakeholder management, connecting the right groups, and organizing multi-faceted answers to difficult questions. The leader will have a proven track record in taking on end-to-end ownership and successfully delivering results in a fast-paced and dynamic business environment. The leadership of the team works as gatekeepers of any decisions made to change the network level DSP plans to optimize for short-term and long-term capacity, cost, and DSP experience.

Key job responsibilities

-Lead delivery station level DSP capacity plans, and act as the single source of truth for reporting on DSP demand.

-Build a scalable and logical process utilizing historical data and DSP performance standards; building planning tools to ingest inputs from various stakeholders.

-Lead reviews with operations leaders on capacity planning.

-Partner with stakeholders to align on changes, and be the single source of truth for DSP demand.

-Monitor and report on the progress in capacity build and utilization.

-Work cross-functionally across multiple operations functions to drive standards in capacity planning and management.

-Co-ordinate and direct execution of DSP capacity plans with partner acquisition teams based on the capacity plans.

-Build a strong partnership with upstream planning functions to measure, control and respond to planning variation.

-Maintain a strong focus on the DSP experience in building realistic, yet attainable capacity plans.

Amazon Logistics, or AMZL, handles ‘last mile’ delivery duties in partnership with third-party distribution businesses. We utilise creative thinking and continuous improvement initiatives to get millions of physical products into the hands of our customers. Our goal is to make our customers’ delivery experience as smooth as possible and roll out global delivery solutions.

There are two sides to what we do. Our ‘under the roof’ associates process millions of products for dispatch to our delivery teams. Our team is people-focused and supportive, particularly as lots of our people work through the night. We focus mostly on operations, with 24/7 shifts in most of our locations.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, or MBA

  • 7+ years of delivering cross functional projects experience

  • Experiences in Supply Chain / Transportation or related environment for an International company.

  • People management experience and strong leadership skills, with experience managing people and building teams.

  • Business level communication in English (Verbal and written).

  • Familiarity with supply chain management and transportation concepts : forecasting, planning, optimization, logistics, delivery performance, carrier negotiation, inventory management, S&OP

  • Proficiency in Excel, skills in data transformation, analysis, and optimization

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of program or project management experience

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel (macros, pivots, lookups) at an advanced level

  • Business level Japanese (Verbal and written)

  • Experience of SQL and data-driven decision-making skills
