Abbott Senior Specialist Contract Manufacturing in Tokyo, Japan

Primary Function/Primary Goals/Objectives

The Contract Manufacturing Specialist is the key point of contact between Abbott and the assigned Contract Manufacturer. Primary focus of this role is to work on New Product Introduction (NPI) Projects with the Contract Manufacturer while also being able to support and direct day to day issue resolution.

The Contract Manufacturing Specialist will seek to drive continuous improvement and drive more efficient ways of conducting business keeping a close relationship with its key stakeholders in order to gain their organizational commitment.

Major Responsibilities

Reporting to the Area Director TPM Operations and R&D of the International Third Party Manufacturing group, the Contract Manufacturing Specialist will work closely with the local comercial organisation, and Divisional functions such as Procurement, Quality Assurance, Regulatory, Logistics, Engineering to complete assigned projects and to oversee progress on day to day issue resolution. Self-starter, with strong team and project management skills, the Contract Manufacturing Specialist will be required to uncover relevant information, negotiate and agree solutions by generating ideas, working with others and reporting complex issues in an effective and factual way.

Ensure that capacity, capabilities, and systems are in place to execute reliable and cost effective supply of goods from the Contract Manufacturer to the agreed customer satisfaction level.

Lead alternative ingredient supplier workstream from identifying new local or global ingredient suppliers, qualification, supplier negotiations, approval, plant trials through to use of new ingredients in commercial production

Propose, negotiate, prioritize and manage implementation of cost improvement projects and lead time reduction programs that drive improvement across the Abbott network.

Proactively and continuously assess inefficiencies and manufacturing issues and complete analysis of total end-to-end costs of supply and speed to market establishing capabilities that can meet or exceed commercial sales requirements. Candidate will possess strong financial accumen and will have the ability to lead contract negotiations and renewals.

Establish and maintain a solid and beneficial business relationship with the key stakeholders to prioritize, secure and quickly drive change that is most beneficial to Abbott. Candidate will possess strong written and oral communication skills in both Japanese and English, experience in effectively working across multiple cultures, managing external stakeholders and building strong, professional, collaborative relationships.

Supervise the efficient implementation of product and process changes, also supporting manufacturing and R&D trials and continuously monitoring performance.

Education:

Required Bachelor Degree in Science, Engineering, Finance or similar discipline

Fluent in both Japanese and English.

Background:

3-5 years of experience in some or all or the following disciplines: pharmaceutical manufacturing, procurement, finance, project management. This will ideally be coupled with nutritional, regulatory and business experience.

Accountability/Scope: Under the guidance of the Director of Operations , this position is accountable for managing specific projects at Contract Manufacturers, up to a value of $5-10 million. In addition the position will be accountable for managing supply chain activities including on-time delivery, and ensuring the Contract Manufacturer maintains sufficent raw material inventories. Position is also accountable to work with other members of the Abbott Nutrition Supply Chain to secure capacity to meet the AN business plan and to control year to year costs in line with other Abbott facilities. The role offers visibility to AN senior leadership and the opportunity to present to executive stakeholders. The job location is in Tokyo. This role will include 10% global travel.
