Amazon Software Development Manager, JP Manga in Tokyo, Japan

Description

Love Manga or Comics? Interested in creating a great customer experience for Amazon’s digital Manga business? The Japan Manga business focuses on creating a great customer experience for Manga fans to discover, acquire and read digital Manga.

We are looking for a seasoned leader for a team of Software Development Engineers in our Tokyo office to own Kindle Manga services and features on Amazon Japan website across all platforms (desktop, mobile browser, mobile shopping app). A successful candidate will have an established background in developing customer-facing experiences as well as backend services, a strong technical ability, excellent project management skills, great communication skills, managing and growing developers, and a motivation to achieve results in a fast paced environment.

In this team you will have the opportunity to:

  • Solve challenging problems at significant scale

  • Be responsible for the overall systems development life cycle

  • Develop the long-term strategy for your programs and translate that into an achievable road map/action plan

  • Management and execution against project plans and delivery commitments

  • Manage the day-to-day activities of the engineering team within an Agile/Scrum environment

  • Work closely with engineers to architect and develop the best technical design and approach

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 7+ years of engineering experience

  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or equivalent

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
