Your Opportunity

Several opportunities exist for highly motivated, personable, and organized Environmental Field Technicians. These positions will be based out of Stantec’s Buffalo, NY office but will be physically located at field sites throughout the state of New York. As talented and ambitious professionals, you will be working with a multi-disciplinary team executing field work at operational wind energy projects. These positions require travel and independent work on remote field sites. We are looking for dependable, dedicated, and attentive individuals to fulfill field survey tasks with high regard for quality wildlife data collection. You will work directly with Stantec’s project manager. This position will be full time each week from approximately April 15, 2024 – November 15, 2024, with potential for opportunities beyond.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Support field data collection, entry, and quality review

  • Execute field work independently and safely

  • Communicate regularly with project manager(s) and/or field team lead(s), regarding data collection and progress

  • Comply with field safety and security protocols

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Proficient with bird and bat identification and data collection or willingness to learn

  • Proven technical, communication, and organizational skills

  • Proficient in MS Office applications

  • Ability to endure long days of physically and mentally challenging field work

  • Ability to walk long distances on flat, uneven ground

  • Ability to work safely in varying weather conditions

  • Possess a positive solutions-oriented attitude

  • Strong collaboration and ability to work with a team

  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment

  • Strong work ethic and integrity

  • Sense of humor and desire for team success

  • Good driving record and valid driver’s license

  • Ability to navigate on the road and in the field in remote settings

Education and Experience

  • Diploma or degree (degree preferred) in wildlife management, ecology, biology, or conservation; wetland science; soil science; botany; or environmental sciences (or related field)

  • A minimum of 4 undergraduate semesters in one of the above majors

  • 1-5 years of field work experience as a team or independently

  • Demonstrated experience in applied field ecology

  • Experience with bird and bat identification

  • Experience with MS office applications (Outlook, Excel, Access, and Word)

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):

Salary Range(s):

  • $17.98 Per Hour - $24.27 Per Hour Min/Max Pay Range(s) for postings located in NYC/NY

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.

Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.
