Project X Data Architect in Toronto, Ontario

Role Summary

As a Data Architect at Project X Ltd., you will be providing clients with your knowledge and experience in making sense of messy, unstructured data. The Data Architect will be responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing end-to-end solutions that address designing scalable and efficient data solutions, and complex business challenges and unlock the value of data for our clients.

Major Areas of Responsibility

Data Strategy and Planning:

  • Collaborate with clients to understand their business goals and develop data strategies aligned with their objectives.

  • Lead the planning and roadmap development for data architecture projects, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities.

    Data Modeling and Design:

  • Design and develop conceptual, logical, and physical data models to support business requirements and data analysis needs.

  • Implement best practices for data modeling, including normalization, denormalization, and dimensional modeling techniques.

    Data Integration and ETL Development:

  • Lead the design and implementation of data integration solutions to consolidate and harmonize data from multiple sources.

  • Develop and optimize Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes to ensure efficient data movement and transformation.

    Database Management and Optimization:

  • Provide expertise in database management tasks such as database installation, configuration, performance tuning, and capacity planning.

  • Optimize database performance and scalability through indexing strategies, query optimization, and partitioning techniques.

    Data Governance and Security:

  • Define and enforce data governance policies and standards to ensure data quality, integrity, and security.

  • Implement access controls, encryption, and auditing mechanisms to protect sensitive data assets.

    Data Visualization and Reporting:

  • Design and develop interactive dashboards, reports, and visualizations to communicate insights and key metrics to stakeholders.

  • Utilize data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent to create compelling and actionable visualizations.

    Documentation and Knowledge Sharing:

  • Create and maintain documentation for data architecture solutions, including technical specifications, data dictionaries, and architectural diagrams.

  • Share knowledge and best practices with team members and clients through training sessions, workshops, and knowledge transfer activities.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other

  • College degree, Bachelor's, or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.

  • 3-5 years of experience in data architecture, data modeling, and database design.

  • Proficiency in data modeling tools such as ERwin, ER/Studio, or equivalent.

  • Strong SQL skills and experience with relational database management systems (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL).

  • Hands-on experience with ETL tools and processes, such as Informatica, Talend, or SSIS.

  • Expertise in data visualization and reporting tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or QlikView.

  • Knowledge of data governance principles, data security practices, and regulatory compliance requirements.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with clients and team members.

    Nice to Have:

  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform).

  • Familiarity with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, or NoSQL databases.

  • Certification in relevant technologies or methodologies (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate, TOGAF Certified).
