The Opportunity

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Strategic Communications, Canada Impact team, you will be a key member of the team, working in tandem with communications, government and public affairs and sustainability specialists in our regional offices in Canada and our global office in Chicago. 

You will shape and govern internal communications programs for Canadian employees and for 90,000+ employees of our Franchisees and contribute to external campaigns that build the Brand’s reputation with Canadians. The Strategic and Integrated Communications Specialist, Canada Impact Team will support existing systems and programs as well as lead the execution of new programs. You will work closely with cross-functional teams across the business and agency partners to develop and execute strategic and engaging communications materials in support of McDonald’s Canada’s business priorities.

Principal Accountabilities

In addition to following McDonald’s policies and procedures, principal accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Partner with the business to drive more effective and efficient communications, through the development, oversight and maintenance of an Editorial Calendar

  • Act as a trusted advisor on communications strategies and best practices for internal stakeholders

  • Empower subject matter experts in the business to effectively communicate their programs to internal audiences, through development and socialization of tools and resources

  • Content management and oversight:

  • Develop compelling written and visual content for internal and external audiences

  • Ensure messages are reaching internal audiences at the right time and via the right channel through oversight and management of key internal/external channels and newsletters (ie. @mcd Intranet, Corporate Office screens, This Just In newsletter, collaborative communications tools)

  • Develop the strategy to enhance and modernize channels as part of broader Strategic Communications Modernization program

  • Assess effectiveness through monitoring and analysis of performance metrics

  • Develop Integrated communications plans for priority initiatives that drive awareness and pride across the McDonald’s Canada system

  • Partner with other members of the Canada Impact Team to ensure plans are integrated across functions and aligned for the greatest possible impact

  • Work with agency partners to ensure projects are executed on time and within budget

  • Plan and execute special events, including corporate staff townhalls, employee engagement initiatives and McDonald’s Canada Restaurant Manager conventions to connect internal audiences to our priorities and purpose

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or postgraduate certificate in communications-related field

  • Minimum 2 years experience in corporate communications

  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to communicate in a variety of styles and for different audiences

  • Ability to influence and collaborate with senior leadership, cross-functional teams and agency partners

  • A team player with a desire to collaborate as part of an integrated team, while also being independent.

Nice to haves:

  • Ability to read and write in French would be an asset

  • Experience developing video content for internal and external channels

  • Experience with email management systems such as Poppulo

  • Basic HTML skills and experience with intranet content management systems such as Unily

  • Experience with creating graphics through Canva
