City Of Trinidad Community Services Officer 1 (Seasonal) in Trinidad, Colorado

Position: Animal Control / Code Enforcement Officer - This position is a seasonal non sworn, uniformed position. The Community Services Officer I enforces city ordinances, conducts inspections, and investigates complaints related to Code Enforcement, Parking enforcement, and Animal Control by gathering evidence, issuing violation notices and citations, and preparing reports.

Must: Have a high school diploma/GED certificate. Requires a valid Driver's License. Successful candidates must pass a background investigation and drug screen prior to employment. Communicate with customers to ensure that where possible they are satisfied and that their needs are being addressed. Skills: Ability to analyze situations quickly and make independent decisions based on sound reasoning, good judgment, established procedures and proper interpretation of City ordinances. Ability to perform duties independently and with initiative. Ability to assist in training programs and instruct employees on new equipment. Ability to work in a fast paced environment, while being able to maintain a professional and courteous attitude. Demonstrate strong organization skills and a willingness to be pro-active and accept new challenges. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with frequent interruptions. Excellent communication skills both oral and written. Ability to prioritize projects and daily workload. Knowledge of computers and programs, utilities, and municipal operations. Operate a Personal Computer and be familiar with current computer software applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook). Set up and type a variety of letters, memos, reports, maintain moderately complex administrative reports from such records. Ability to maintain effective working relations with superiors and subordinates. Knowledge of state, federal, and local laws. Ability to reliably and predictably carry out duties.

Duties: Detects, responds to, and investigates code violations including animal control throughout the City. Coordinates and initiates action with property owners or tenants to correct violations. Maintains records and prepares reports, issues summons, prepares court memoranda, and gives testimony in court as required. Capture and impound dead, sick, injured, stray or trapped domestic and non-domestic animals. Investigate complaints from the public regarding stray, sick, injured, and abused animals; investigates cases of cruelty, neglect, abandonment, animal bites and barking dogs. Quarantine biting animals for observation according to established guidelines. Communicates effectively and coherently over law enforcement radio channels while initiating and responding to radio communications. Observes and follows established City and department policies and procedures in the daily conduct of the job Performs other duties as assigned.

Wage - $18.00/hr
