JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Learning Factory (LF) in the Penn State College of Engineering (https://www.engr.psu.edu/) is seeking an Industry Relations Coordinator (IRC). The Learning Factory is the makerspace for the College of Engineering and coordinates the largest multidisciplinary, client-sponsored capstone program in the world. We support both curricular and extracurricular activities for thousands of students, faculty, and staff each semester. The IRC will act as the primary contact for the many partners and clients of the Learning Factory. The partners and clients are both internal and external to Penn State and include US and global industry partners, entrepreneurs, donors, and advisory board members, as well as students, faculty, and academic partners.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist the Director of the Learning Factory by implementing and monitoring strategic planning, establishing operational goals, determining best practices for the administrative office and shop, establishing objectives, priorities, and standards for the unit, and making recommendations on budgetary matters.

  • Manage the administrative office and budgets, support the Director of the LF, as well as provide supervision and support to graduate assistants, teaching assistants, and shop supervisors.

  • Serve as a stewardship liaison and collaborate with Alumni Relations, Corporate and Foundation Relations, and University Development.

  • Receive and ensure proper dissemination, spending, and stewardship of gifts and endowments.

  • Work independently and manage procedures and workflow of the LF office, the operational budgets and funding (general, research, endowments, grants) and act as the purchasing agent for the office and LF shop (all floors in the Engineering, Design, and Innovation Building).

  • Coordinate and host the capstone project Kickoffs (2), Showcases (2), and Industrial Advisory Board meetings (3), and other impromptu client visits.

  • Coordinate all planning, communication, promotion/advertising, meals, parking, as well as supervises all events.

The Learning Factory hosts over 200 client-sponsored projects in the LF Capstone Design Project program for 13 departments in multiple colleges annually. The IRC will process purchases and reimbursements for the 200+ capstone teams, as well as the faculty and mentors for the 1,200+ first year students participating in the Cornerstone Maker Experience. In addition, the successful candidate will implement and provide training on university policy relating to travel, finances, and intellectual property. The IRC may also act as the liaison between students, faculty, and sponsors and provide guidance and possible solutions on resolving conflicts.

Requirements and Qualifications:

The Industry Relations Coordinator position will be filled at the Intermediate Professional or Advanced Professional level, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. The Intermediate Professional level requires a bachelor's degree and 1+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher-level positions.

Knowledge of SAP Concur and Microsoft Excel is required. Knowledge of SIMBA is preferred. This position requires the successful candidate to have strong time management and multi-tasking skills. Previous or current interactions with industry and donors is preferred.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$61,800.00 - $102,300.00
