JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Grant Writer, Penn State Outreach

Penn State Outreach (https://www.outreach.psu.edu/) is seeking a Grant Writer to play a vital role in supporting the mission of the unit. The Grant Writer will be responsible for researching, planning, writing, and tracking compelling grant proposals to secure funding for Outreach. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in grant writing, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to navigate federal programs and regulations.

Responsibilities of this role include:

  • Seeking, researching, identifying, and pursuing grant opportunities from local, state, and federal government agencies.

  • Working collaboratively across the University with colleges, campuses, and administrative units to identify funding needs and opportunities.

  • Preparing funding applications by writing narratives, completing forms, and coordinating application components with appropriate teams.

  • Writing and editing non-technical sections and providing support for technical sections as requested and ensuring compliance with proposal guidelines, internal processes, and policies with assistance of the Principal Investigator.

  • Assisting PIs with team development as well as internal and external partnerships.

  • Working collaboratively with strategic partners across Penn State and externally to address content of non-technical sections (diversity and inclusion, education and outreach, management, data management plans, facilities and equipment, project evaluation, and other resources).

  • Developing a list of new grant prospects and preparing summary memos for each.

  • Collaborating closely with PIs, finance department, Pre-award manager and other team members to gather necessary information and data for grant applications and reporting.

  • Preparing and submitting regular reports to funding agencies, providing updates on grant activities, achievements, and outcomes.

  • Following up to ensure timely completion of tasks with relevant stakeholders, leaders, etc.

  • Scheduling, coordinating, facilitating, and documenting planning meetings.

  • Providing updates and sending progress summaries to PIs and directors.

  • Communicating the proposal strategy and progress to other organizational stakeholders and obtaining input and sign off on content from other departments as needed.

  • Creating and maintaining a repository of grant support documents; tracking progress of grant proposals submitted and their outcomes.

Qualifications of this role include:

  • Strong research abilities with the capacity to gather and analyze information efficiently to inform decision-making.

  • Maintain collaborative relationships with fund providers and relevant stakeholders.

  • Strong organizational, time management, analytical, and problem-solving skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, environment.

  • Proactive and self-motivated, with a demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team and take initiative in a fast-paced environment.

  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues at all levels of the organization.

Additional Information:

This is a hybrid position that combines remote and on-campus work. Questions related to hybrid work arrangement should be directed to the hiring manager during the interview process .

Minimal travel is required for this position may fluctuate based on business needs.

Education and Experience:

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher plus one year of relevant experience. Or, an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$61,800.00 - $89,600.00
