JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Pennsylvania State University is seeking a candidate for a Research Project Manager 1 position. The Research Project Manager will be responsible for preparation, logistical planning, and documentation of studies and experiments for internal and external publication. This includes the management of mouse colonies, as well as collection and management of time-critical data, samples, and research operations, including lab supply procurement. They will also be responsible for meeting with various PSU agencies to ensure proper protocol is being met regarding lab safety and animal welfare, according to the most recent guidelines and regulations. The Research Project Manager will also assist with record management, writing lab protocols and reports for publication, and training undergraduate and graduate students in laboratory procedures.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for the following:

  • Training and working with undergraduate and graduate students, as well as post docs, in the lab to effectively establish research parameters, including experiment planning, data collection and documentation, and lab protocol implementation and support. The Research Project Manager will also be expected to partake in meetings with labmates and the primary investigator to discuss research and give research and technical presentations to the lab.

  • Conducting and providing documentation for animal and histological procedures, including the management of mouse colonies with multiple strains. The Research Project Manager will also meet and collaborate with various PSU agencies to maintain lab safety and animal welfare protocols according to the most recent guidelines and regulations.

  • Maintaining and ordering lab supplies using a Penn State purchasing card and/or Lion Marketplace. The Research Project Manager will be expected to coordinate with the PI and the department's finance team for more substantial supply needs, such as capital equipment. The Research Project Manager will also be responsible for maintaining stock of lab supplies and reconciling expenses in a timely manner.

This position typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree or higher plus two years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Degrees in a science or engineering-related field (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, etc.) are preferred. This is a limited-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of refunding.
