JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Utility Services within the Office of the Physical Plant (https://opp.psu.edu) (OPP) is seeking a Utility Industrial Controls and Technology Supervisor to ensure the efficient operation and maintenance of Penn State’s Utility Controls Systems, including Steam, Chilled Water, Water, Wastewater, and Electrical systems.

This leadership position involves overseeing a team of skilled Technical Service employees who support critical sensors, controls, and monitoring devices. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with Utility Supervisors, Engineers, Contractors, and other Penn State personnel to uphold security, compliance, and safety standards for the Industrial Control Systems within the Utility Systems.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Formulate and implement a comprehensive strategic plan for the operation, repair, and maintenance of designated systems.

  • Oversee the daily operations of skilled employees within the assigned utilities group. Assess and prioritize incoming work requests, assigning specific tasks to employees based on their importance and urgency.

  • Conduct thorough investigations and evaluations to identify and implement solutions for complex, multi-disciplinary maintenance issues within assigned utilities. Propose and implement design modifications and enhancements to improve efficiency and performance.

  • Develop and oversee budgets for material, labor, equipment, and operating costs.

  • Recruit, hire, supervise, and provide training to a team of approximately 6 personnel across various trades.

  • Conduct thorough inspections of work sites to ensure safe and optimal working conditions for both employees and contractors. Regularly check the condition of machinery and equipment to ensure they are in satisfactory working order.

    This position will require working with PSU and outside Engineers to ensure all future needs of the University will be met and to work in close cooperation with the Utility Supervisors.

This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.

Education and experience:

Minimally requires a Bachelor's degree and six years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The position also requires knowledge and functionality of a Computerized Maintenance Management System and an understanding of the priorities and needs as this position will require scheduling, assigning, and dispatching personnel to support urgent and important items. Additionally, it will require providing and implementing repair, replacement, or maintenance of the designated systems.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$68,200.00 - $102,300.00
