JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Site Coordinator of the VITA program manages all aspects of the University Park Penn State VITA site, where student volunteers prepare income tax returns for low-income individuals and families in Centre County. The coordinating role involves volunteer recruitment, training and supervision during the fall semester. Other duties generally center on a variety of tasks to prepare the site for the upcoming filing season. Additionally, in the spring semester, the coordinator works with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to deploy the online tax software provided to VITA sites nationwide, electronically file returns, and resolve any problems on returns that are not accepted by the IRS. The Coordinator also runs the day-to-day marketing and operations of the Penn State VITA site during the tax filing season, January through April. The Coordinator must have a demonstrated knowledge of basic individual income tax concepts, electronic return preparation process, and electronic filing of individual income tax returns; the highest level of ethical standards; diplomatic interpersonal skills; the ability to multi-task, and the maturity to engage with student volunteers and guide their efforts in this service learning activity. This is a part-time position that requires approximately five to eight hours of time per week from late August through October and in May; eight to ten hours per week from November through January; and 25-30 hours per week from February through April.
