LMI Technologies Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer in Vancouver, British Columbia

What will you do as an Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer?

The Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer (Senior Product Designer) position routinely applies their skills to design, develop, test, document, and deliver against requirements and specifications of our sensors or platform level components. The successful candidate is expected to be independent and able to apply their knowledge to meet well established project deliverables. 

Working as part of our global Technology (R&D) team, you will report to the Team Lead in the Product Design group and work at our Burnaby head office. 

  • Follows clearly established standards and guidelines as provided by the Team Lead

  • Understands and utilizes the tools and processes defined by the group to effectively carry out project work

  • Designs sensors or platform level components while integrating optics into the system

  • Participates in regular design reviews and demonstrates strong adherence to checklist requirements

  • Produces task lists to breakdown project assignments into appropriate level of detail

  • Provides regular updates without being prompted using tools as stipulated by Team Lead

  • Undertakes and/or oversees R&D sensor builds

  • Collaborates with manufacturing engineering team to transition new products into manufacturing as well as help resolve escalated manufacturing problems

  • Creates and maintains product bill of materials as well as part lifecycles

  • Meets delivery expectations against key project milestones 

  • Works closely with their team mitigating issues with solutions

  • Produces required technical reports and documentation  

  • Proactively contributes to and implements continuous improvement initiatives

    What do you need to be successful?

  • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent

  • 5+ years experience in the high technology industry working on various projects relating to their area of study

  • Experience in design for manufacturing, experiments and/or thermodynamics

  • Background in optics and opto-mechanical integration is required

  • Strong knowledge of analysis methods as well as software simulation tools such as Solidworks FEA and Zemax

  • Strong understanding of practical validation methodology as well as application of scientific methods

  • Strong knowledge of adhesives and their applications

  • Experience in tolerance and process capability analysis

  • Strong understanding of GD&T along with knowledge of ASME Y14.5 - 2009 or equivalent ISO standard 

  • Familiarity with stage gate process

  • Solid understand of corporate new product introduction process and structure

  • Pursues problem solving with clear understanding of facts and defines test plan and solution strategies

  • Experience with project management software tools to maintain task completion status and report on project progress

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, specifically in report writing as well as making clear and concise presentations

  • Strong knowledge of Google G-suite or other Office productivity software

  • Solid interpersonal skills are required to function appropriately in a team environment across continents

  • Knowledge of Python an asset

    BC/CALIFORNIA ROLES ONLY | Salary Range: $98,246 - $112,000 - $127,680

    Expected Salary: Our typical hiring range will be +/- 10% of the midpoint listed above. Factors influencing this decision include qualifications and market conditions for the role.
