Description

The Health Care Agency is seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated Physical Therapy Assistant to work primarily with clients at Eastman Physical Therapy Services. Under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist, assists in the provision of physical therapy services and performs related tasks as required.

Distinguishing Characteristics:

This classification differs from Physical Therapy Aide in that it requires licensing and performs more complex duties under supervision of a registered physical therapist.

WHAT WE OFFER

GENERAL SALARY INCREASE: Of 3.5% on December 22, 2024

EDUCATIONAL INCENTIVE: Incumbents may be eligible for an educational incentive of 2.5%, 3.5%, or 5% based on completion of an Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's degree that is not required for the classification.

BILINGUAL INCENTIVE: Incumbents may also be eligible for bilingual incentive depending upon operational need and certification of skill.

MARKET BASE PREMIUM PAY: Applicant is also entitled to Market based premium pay of $5.39 per hour as described in the SEIU MOA article 6 sections 622.

HOLIDAYS: 12 paid days per year which includes a scheduled floating holiday.

The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future Regular (including Temporary, Fixed-Term) vacancies. There is currently one (1) Regular vacancy within Ventura County Medical Center.

Licensed Physical Therapy Assistants are represented by the Service Employees' International Union (SEIU) and are eligible for overtime compensation.

Examples Of Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Provides physical therapy services in accordance with the California State Practice Act;

  • Provides education for patients, families, caregivers, hospital, and school staff;

  • Utilizes modalities in accordance with the treatment plan;

  • Communicates with other health and educational personnel in matters relating to patient progress, where modification to the treatment plan is not required;

  • Maintains appropriate records and documentation of treatment;

  • Assists therapist in monitoring areas of ROM changes, gait, functional mobility, muscle testing, and other areas of appropriate assessment; and

  • Performs other related duties as assigned;

Typical Qualifications

These are entrance requirements to the examination process and assure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE

Must have successfully passed the Physical Therapy Board examination for physical therapy assistants or must have successfully completed a program for Physical Therapy Assistants listed by the American Physical Therapy Association.

Special Necessary Requirement(s)

  • Must possess a valid license as a Physical Therapy Assistant issued by the State of California; OR be eligible to apply for and obtain the California Physical Therapy Assistant License within the probationary period. Once obtained, a current valid Physical Therapy Assistant License is a condition to continued employment.

  • Possession of a valid California driver’s license and proof of auto insurance may be required.

  • Possession and maintenance of a current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate by date of hire.

  • Live scan fingerprinting is required for this position.

  • Must possess the physical ability to lift and carry fifty (50) pounds unassisted or with reasonable accommodation.

  • Must be willing to work weekends and holidays when necessary.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Some knowledge of: principles and methods of physical therapy; neuromuscular functions and malfunctions, kinesiology and the modalities and objectives of physical therapy treatment for adults and children with physical disabilities.

Ability to: work with children; work with individuals from various diverse cultural, social, professional and economic backgrounds; administer various types of physical therapy services; establish effective relations with patients, staff and other departments; and work with multidisciplinary teams.

SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE – qualifying: All applicants are required to complete and submit the questionnaire for this examination at the time of filing. The supplemental questionnaire may be used throughout the examination process to assist in determining each applicant's qualifications and acceptability for the position. Failure to complete and submit the questionnaire will result in the application being removed from consideration.

APPLICATION EVALUATION – qualifying: All applications will be reviewed to determine whether or not the stated requirements are met. Those individuals meeting the stated requirements will be invited to continue to the next step in the screening and selection process.

WRITTEN EXAM – 100%: A job-related written examination will be administered to test candidates' knowledge of office practices/computer usage, English usage, interpersonal relations, and medical knowledge and terminology. Candidates must earn a score of seventy percent (70%) or higher to qualify for placement on the eligible list.

Applicants successfully completing the exam process may be placed on an eligible list for a period of one (1) year.

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION: A thorough pre-employment, post offer background investigation which may include inquiry into past employment, education, criminal background information, and driving record may be required for this position.
