National Winter Actvity Center SUMMER: Program Specialist: Hydroponics and Culinary Arts in Vernon, New Jersey

Position:

Program Specialist: Culinary Arts, Hydroponics, and Gardening

Season:

Summer 2024 Seasonal Full-Time and Part-Time

Camp Dates:

July 1, 2024 – August 23, 2024

Monday – Friday 9:00 am – 4:00 pm

Position Purpose:

To further the mission of the camp through development and delivery of culinary arts activities that are safe, fun, and appropriate to the campers’ age and abilities.

Qualifications:

  • Documented experience in culinary instruction or documented training and experience

  • Current certification in first aid and CPR

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Training and experience in teaching culinary arts to children

  • Desire and ability to work with children outdoors in varied conditions

    Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver a culinary arts program that is appropriate for the ages and abilities of the campers

  • Write lesson plans that meet camp outcomes and the abilities of the campers

  • Evaluate abilities of the campers and staff

  • Assist in the management and care of the physical facilities and equipment of the program

  • Maintain the kitchen equipment needed for the program

  • Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, planning and leading those as assigned

  • Assist in the daily upkeep of the Hydroponics system

  • Introduce campers to the Hydroponics system and building a curriculum around the sustainability of resources through gardening

    Physical Requirements:

  • Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of the campers

    Some physical requirements of this position could be endurance including standing, running, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to make projects and assist campers. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/program. Willingness to work in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering program in the culinary facility available.
