National Park Service Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor in Vicksburg, Mississippi

Summary This position is located in Vicksburg National Military Park, in the Facility and Maintenance Division. This is a Career/Career-Conditional Full-time appointment. This job announcement is open to receive applications from the first 100 applicants. The job announcement will remain open until either the quota of 100 applicants, or 05/09/2024 is reached. Responsibilities Responsible for the day-to-day supervision and work direction of buildings and utilities trades, crafts, trails, grounds, and janitorial facility operations. Serve as Project Supervisor and park Contracting Officer's Representative (COR). Perform administrative functions for their maintenance branch/group, such as preparing Human Resources packages for recruiting, classification, off-boarding, etc. Manages Youth Programs. Review and approve payroll, leave, and extra hours requests, and scheduling. Provide professional and technical support and knowledge on utilities, trades, and crafts such as electrical, HVAC, potable water system operation, drainage, storm and sanitary sewer systems, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, painting, trails, grounds keeping and janitorial services. ABOUT PARK: Vicksburg National Military Park (VICK) is comprised of several discontinuous units related to the US Civil War, including: The Campaign For Vicksburg: For 18 months Union and Confederate Forces engaged each other all through the region as they positioned for control of Vicksburg. The Siege of Vicksburg: For 47 days, the Union General US Grant held the Confederate Army and city of Vicksburg under a hard and brutal siege. The multiple sites are managed under one administration and are in and around a 40-mile radius surrounding Vicksburg, Mississippi. Sites related to the Campaign for Vicksburg include the Port Gibson Unit (Shaifer House), Raymond Unit (Battle of Raymond), and Champion Hill (Crossroads and Coker House). The Siege of Vicksburg sites include the main battlefield and National Cemetery within the City of Vicksburg, Pemberton's Headquarters, Louisiana Circle, Navy Circle, the USS Cairo, and Grant's Canal in Louisiana. Because of the integrity of the resources, Vicksburg National Military Park, the USS Cairo, and the National Cemetery are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In addition, the engines and boilers of the USS Cairo are Historic Mechanical Engineering Landmarks, and Pemberton's Headquarters has been designated as a National Historic Landmark. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. You will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use. You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. You may be required to complete training and operate a four-wheel drive vehicle. You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to work on-call, weekends, holidays, and overtime work. If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period. Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. You will be required to complete a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450 on an annual basis. You will be required to complete a Forklift Operators Certification. Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.
