Amazon Pathways Area Manager in Virtual Location - Italy, Italy

Pathways Area Manager is a full-time development and career accelerator role for professionals with MBA/MSc/MEng/PhD degrees that acts as a gateway to the Pathways Operations Leadership Development Program.

Pathways is a five-year Operations Leadership Development Program designed to rapidly develop talented MBA and Masters-level graduates with the skills needed to be Amazon General Managers, Directors and VPs. This is the opportunity to chart your own course. Pathways members are highly visible to senior leadership and have flexibility with changing roles, sites and geographies as we strive to create global leaders. Through a series of intense, progressively challenging opportunities in the core of our established operations network, we will stretch your leadership capacity to its full potential. The business lessons you learn and credibility you develop will benefit you over the rest of your career and prepare you for future executive leadership opportunities.

The role will launch your development in the following steps:

Step 1 - Start with the Pathways Area Manager role leading 50-100 team members. Performing as a front-line leader within our Fulfilment/Sort/Delivery network, you will build a foundation of experience and skills required to advance to the Pathways Operations Manager.

Step 2 - Based on your performance, you will join the Pathways Leadership Program stepping up as a Pathways Operations Manager within an expected timeframe of 18 months. You will gain experience leading other managers and approx. 300-500 team members. Drive improvements in operational processes by working cross-functionally with Amazon technology and engineering teams.

Step 3 – Promote to a Senior Operations Manager where you will lead through others to execute regional or network wide initiatives.

Step 4 - Graduate from the Pathways Program and emerge as a leader known for operational excellence, transforming Worldwide Operations. Your expected role is going to be General Manager or Regional Director. Apply your subject matter expertise to lead a new business, project, team or an entire site in a specific region.

Key job responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage and coach team, support their training and development

  • Exercise sound judgement, ensuring progress and KPI targets are worked towards and met

  • Prioritize the continued motivation, engagement and performance of each team member

  • Promote and safeguard Amazon’s Health and Safety standards

  • Uphold the highest standards of process quality

Basic Qualifications

Basic qualifications are required to apply for a position at Amazon.

  • You have graduated or plan to graduate with an MBA/MSc/PhD in 2021-2025 and are available for full-time work in 2024

  • Full-time industry professional experience (excluding internships or work studies). The minimum time required, depends on the complexity of work

  • Very good command of local language (CEFR B2) of your requested location and English (CEFR B2)

  • You delivered projects where you have been able to enhance performance or resolved complex business problems

  • You have strong oral and written communication skills

  • Flexibility to work in shift patterns which may include nights and weekends

  • You are flexible to relocate for the position

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in an operational, logistics, supply chain, manufacturing or transportation environment or similar

  • Experience in managing a wide rage of stakeholders

  • Strong decision-making skills, enabling you to use sound reasoning as and when required

  • Direct management experience for employees and their performance

  • Experience in monitoring and improving KPIs or similar metrics

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal)

  • Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma or Kaizen techniques and methodologies
