Job Summary

The Cloud Engineer will consult with the application development team and collaborate with a Cloud Architect on the design/architecture of new stacks in support of development efforts or for on-boarding of vendor software products. Everything is done with an eye towards automation and efficiency; zero tolerance for manual workflows.

Job Description

We are looking for a Cloud Systems Engineer to provide support for clients’ cloud platforms, focusing on the delivery of new platform services (servers, databases, load balancers, storage, etc.) as well as support and maintenance of existing platforms. This position will be full-time and remote work set-up.

What You’ll Do

  • Implement and manage IaaS and PaaS services in TE’s cloud platforms. Support/management scope are for core infrastructure services (servers, elastic load balancers, storage, Lambda functions, RDS, etc.…)

  • OS level support of Linux environments, including troubleshooting, responding to platform alerts, and change management (cloud server system admin responsibilities). Primary focus will be Linux, especially Amazon Linux

  • Proficiency with bash shell scripting used heavily during EC2 instance bootstrap processes to install and configure software is a required skill

  • We support both ECS and EKS clusters so experience and confidence with container management systems is a must

  • As part of TE’s Digital Customer Solutions - Operations team, the Cloud Systems Engineer will work within the guidelines of TE’s cloud strategy, standards, and framework

  • Proficiency with Python used within Lambda functions a plus

  • Proficiency with Ansible used within AWS System Manager’s, State Manager functionality a plus.

  • Utilization of AWS Systems Manager functionality: Patch Manager, RunCommand and State Manager

  • Configuring virtual machines and dependent services in fault tolerant configurations (auto-scaling / utilizing load balancing / quick recovery / disaster recovery)

  • Monitor and respond to CloudWatch alerts

  • Maintain documentation and standard operating procedures.

  • Participate in team meetings and contribute with cross-team knowledge sharing

  • Assist with identifying areas for to improve efficiency (automation) and resiliency/health of our cloud services. Assist with identifying areas where we can lower costs

What You'll Need

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or information systems

  • Linux administrator – 3 years’ experience

  • AWS Cloud– 5 years’ experience in infrastructure as code environment

  • Linux Shell Scripting (bash) – 3 years’ experience

  • Container Management System Experience (ECS and/or EKS (Kubernetes)) – 3 years’ experience

Preferred:

  • Python Experience (A plus)

  • Ansible Experience (A plus)

  • Self-driven personality

  • Desire to learn and develop new skills

  • AWS certification in System Ops, Solution Architecture, or DevOps (A plus)

Physical Demands

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state and local standards.

  • Sedentary work that involves sitting or remaining stationary most of the time with occasional need to move around the office to attend meetings, etc.

  • Ability to conduct repetitive tasks on a computer, utilizing a mouse, keyboard, and monitor
