Compliance Risk Management (CRM) delivers a compliance risk framework that enables the businesses and functions to comply with applicable internal and external rules and regulations and maintain risk levels within MetLife’s risk appetite. CRM provides constructive challenge to the businesses and functions, partnering closely with them to implement strong processes and effective controls, as well as to foster and embed a culture of compliance. CRM is part of Global Risk Management (GRM).

The Compliance Consultant for US Core Compliance will be a strategic partner and advisor to MetLife’s US Third Party Risk Management (TPRM), and US Global Customer Services & Operations (GCSO). In addition, this role will be responsible for critical elements of the US Core Compliance program that span all lines of business. As an individual contributor, the Compliance Consultant will be responsible for compliance coverage for the TPRM and Complaint Handling (collectively ‘Business’). This role entails working closely and collaborating with the Business on strategic initiatives and emerging issues. In this capacity, this role will be responsible for offering credible challenge, escalation of issues and reporting as appropriate, and working closely with the Business to implement controls and guidelines while ensuring compliance with policies, procedures and standards, law, rules, and regulation. This role is expected to carry out compliance relevant regulatory responsibilities timely and accurately. This role will also independently manage compliance projects and work directly with business management on various compliance matters as well as other duties as prescribed. The Compliance Consultant will report to the Head of MLH and US Core Compliance and will serve as a critical member on the US Core Compliance team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Head of MLH and US Core Compliance to maintain highly effective and reliable US Core Compliance Program (TPRM and Complaint Handling).

  • Provide support to business partners regarding the impact of laws and regulations, and helps with the development of policies and procedures.

  • Advise the Business on the design and efficacy of appropriate controls and risk mitigation strategies.

  • Advise on and provide review and challenge to TPRM and Complaint Handling quality reviews.

  • Carry out compliance relevant regulatory responsibilities such as complaint reconciliations and TPA audit program timely and accurately.

  • Analyze trends of TPRM and Complaint Handling results, identify opportunities to strengthen, and communicate/report results to Senior Compliance Management and Business Leaders.

  • Identify and escalate potential risks and other issues that impact the effectiveness of US Core Compliance Program.

  • Participate in and/or lead cross-functional initiatives or projects.

  • Review and assess compliance risks for new third-party engagements.

  • Provide control ratings based on the assessment for proper remediation.

  • Work with the Privacy and Anti-Financial Crimes (AFC) Compliance teams for necessary coordination for third-party reviews

  • Manage Third-Party Administration (TPA) audit program closely working with TPA owners to ensure all requirements are met, including yearend deadlines for all audits.

  • Handle TPA annual certification.

  • Serves as the primary MetLife contact for state insurance departments to address questions or requests concerning consumer complaint inquiries.

  • Perform periodic state complaint reconciliations as required.

  • Support state exams and various reporting requirements for customer complaints.

  • Perform monitoring for complaints time service including regulatory complaints.

  • Conduct Complaint Handling Policy training.

  • Prepare quarterly Complaint report for management.

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree or relevant experience required.

  • 5+ years of experience in compliance, risk, legal, insurance, financial services

  • Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously with competing deadlines.

  • Highly motivated, adaptable to change, and detail oriented.

  • Strong organizational, analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to identify, reason and resolve issues independently.

  • Effective Communications Skills

  • Relationship Building Abilities

Preferred:

  • JD or MBA a plus

  • Financial or Insurance industry professional certifications or designations a plus

  • Solid knowledge and experience with third party oversight and complaint handling a plus

  • Knowledge of Company operations, systems, and transactions, or Company financial products and services a plus

The wage range for applicants for this position is $84,500 to $112,600. This role is also eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation.
