Summary OIG is organized into seven operational units: the Immediate Office of the Inspector General, Office of the Counselor, Office of Audits and Evaluations, Office of Healthcare Inspections, Office of Investigations, Office of Management and Administration, and Office of Special Reviews. In addition to the Washington, DC, headquarters, OIG has offices located in more than 60 locations throughout the country. Responsibilities These positions can be filled in any of the following VAOIG locations: Atlanta GA, Austin TX, Baltimore MD, Bay Pines FL, Chicago Hines IL, Cleveland Independence IL, Dallas TX, Denver Aurora CO, Kansas City MO, Las Vegas NV, Los Angeles CA, Martinez CA, Miami Miramar FL, Orlando FL, Palm Beach Gardens FL, Portland OR, Sacramento CA, Salem VA, Salt Lake City UT, San Diego CA, Seattle WA, Spokane, Trenton NJ, and Washington DC. As a Supervisory Statistician, you will: Provide expertise in statistics and data science, including comprehensive knowledge of and agility navigating and working with VA and non-VA administrative databases Conduct rigorous, complex studies based on upcoming healthcare inspections, reviews, and evaluations; controversial or new medical techniques or technologies; and areas of interest of the IG, Secretary, or Congress. Maintain full control of study design including defining samples, determining which questions to ask and in what order, developing strategies for data collection, and overseeing data collection. Develop and implement statistical policies and standards for the OIG. Qualifications You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Specialized experience for the GS-15 is defined as one year of experience at the GS-14 level, or equivalent that is directly related to the position and which has equipped the candidate with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience is defined as: - Leading and conducting studies requiring analysis of statistical data based on specific requirements; AND - Developing reports on study findings; AND - Explaining data analysis results in relation to health/business issues and its impact on a program or organization. Education You must meet the minimum basic education and/or work experience requirements for professional Mathematical Statistician series in the federal government. This includes: A. A degree that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc. Credit toward meeting statistical course requirements should be given for courses in which 50 percent of the course content appears to be statistical methods, e.g., courses that included studies in research methods in psychology or economics such as tests and measurements or business cycles, or courses in methods of processing mass statistical data such as tabulating methods or electronic data processing.; OR B. A combination of education and experience -- courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance.
