SUMMARY

Responsible for leading activities related to maintaining station environmental compliance. Identifies, maintains, or obtains required regulatory environmental permits or authorizations to support regulated station activities. Acts as lead for the development, implementation, training and communication of environmental strategies and programs. Serves as technical expert for specialized and complex environmental planning to ensure compliance with applicable regulations, policies, and procedures.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree in technical discipline – Engineering, Mathematics, Physical Science or Engineering Technology OR Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, or related degree. (preferred)

Without a degree, five (5) years’ experience in Environmental, Chemistry, Operations, Engineering, Maintenance or Quality at a commercially operating nuclear plant (Preferred). In lieu of commercial operating nuclear plant experience, other relevant experience may be considered.

EXPERIENCE

Environmental Engineer/Consultant: 2+ Years’ experience in Environmental, Chemistry, Operations, Maintenance, Engineering or Quality at commercial operating nuclear plant. In lieu of commercial operating nuclear plant experience, other relevant environmental experience may be considered. (Required) STP experience preferred.

Senior Environmental Engineer/Consultant: 5+ Years’ experience in Environmental, Chemistry, Operations, Maintenance, Engineering or Quality at commercial operating nuclear plant. In lieu of commercial operating nuclear plant experience, other relevant environmental experience may be considered. (Required) STP experience preferred.

Staff Environmental Engineer/Consultant: 8+ Years’ experience in Environmental, Chemistry, Operations, Maintenance, Engineering or Quality at commercial operating nuclear plant (Maintenance, Engineering and Quality experience must include interaction with Operations and Environmental). In lieu of commercial operating nuclear plant experience, other relevant environmental experience may be considered. (Required) STP experience preferred.

** Master’s degree in a technical discipline is the equivalent of 1 year of experience. PhD in a technical discipline is the equivalent of 2 years of experience.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS

• Certification, or ability to certify, as an EPA Method 9 Visual Emission Evaluator (Required).

• Certification, or ability to certify, as a Class C Water Operator and Class C Wastewater Operator (Preferred)

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Environmental Engineer/Consultant Activities:

• Assists in ensuring that regulatory issues related to environmental compliance are identified and resolved.

• Assists in conducting meetings with various departments, contractors, vendors, and management to support listed duties and resolve regulatory issues.

• Closes out inspection findings, violations, and technical and non-technical regulatory issues.

• Assists with maintaining department and station procedures and policies related to Environmental responsibilities to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

• Prepares routine applications for required permits, licenses, registrations, and authorizations including identifying and using input from other station organizations, vendors, or consultants as needed.

• Provides guidance to station organizations relative to compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, station commitments, and license basis for routine issues.

Senior Environmental Engineer/Consultant Activities:

In addition to Environmental Engineer/Consultant Activities,

• Provides senior level guidance to station organizations relative to environmental compliance with regulatory requirements, station commitments, and the license basis for routine issues.

• Prepares routine Environmental correspondence to applicable regulatory agencies and other departments on inspection findings, requests for information, violations, technical and nontechnical regulatory topics, and other regulatory issues.

• Develops and presents training and briefings to Environmental and outage crew personnel.

• Presents reports and summaries of activities to management.

• Functions as Contract Technical Coordinator and conducts vendor audits as required.

Staff Engineer/Consultant Environmental Activities:

In addition to Senior Engineer/Consultant Environmental Activities,

• Develops the Environmental strategy relative to compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and prepares complex Environmental applications and correspondence.

• Develops and reviews documentation and supporting analyses for submittal to the regulators ensuring compliance with requirements and regulations, ensuring technical accuracy, and evaluating Environmental impact.

• Prepares complex applications for required permits, licenses, registrations, and authorizations including identifying and using input from other station organizations, vendors, or consultants as needed.

• Prepares complex Environmental correspondence to applicable regulators and other departments on inspection findings, requests for information, violations, technical and nontechnical regulatory topics, and other regulatory issues.

• Acts as the station lead for resolution of environmental regulatory issues. Interfaces with other departments, industry committees and regulatory agencies on environmental questions, problems, and issues.

• Performs reportability reviews of relevant station events including evaluation of applicable regulatory requirements.

• Performs non-radiological environmental evaluations for applicable station activities.

• Participates in industry committees and workshops.

• Represents station in various functions and public forums.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

• Accept ERO position as needed.

• Accept outage position as needed.

• Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access.

• Accept Storm Crew assignment as needed.

• Accept Section Duty responsibilities.

• Function as Contract Technical Coordinator

• Expected to serve as section duty point of contact on a rotating basis.

SPECIAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Knowledge of relevant regulations and permits to perform assigned duties and responsibilities.

• Ability to obtain and maintain relevant environmental certifications.

ENVIRONMENTAL & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Environmental and physical requirements require the ability to don appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the defined role; ascending, descending, traversing ladders, scaffolds, stairs; working in confined spaces; moving safely over uneven or slippery terrain; working in proximity to loud equipment and possible inclement weather/temperature conditions.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Overtime and alternate work schedules as needed.

• Subject to callouts twenty-four hours per day seven days per week.

• Travel may be required.

• May be required to carry a phone.

WORK LOCATION

• Due to the nature of the work, this position requires work to be performed in the field and/or at the work site.
