Cleveland Clinic Lead Mammography Technologist in Warrensville Hts, Ohio

As a Lead Mammography Technologist, you will perform mammography screening and diagnostic and interventional procedures. Your duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Establishing and maintaining a good rapport and professional relationship with fellow employees, other departments, and medical staff.

  • Performing duties directly involved with a variety of technical procedures applying ionizing radiation for the purpose of detecting pathology.

  • Demonstrating knowledge of clinical procedures, equipment, and policies - Hospital and Department - that are necessary for job performance.

  • Collaborating with department leadership to develop and implement methods to achieve established goals and objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Under the direction of the Clinical Manager, supervises and coordinates work activities of assigned personnel.

  • Schedules work assignments and prepares master schedule.

  • May perform payroll time sheet for employees.

  • Trains, counsels, disciplines, and evaluates performance of employees.

  • Assists with interviewing applicants and recommends selection.

  • Maintains procedure manual and communicates changes to staff.

  • Performs mammograms per department protocol.

  • Instructs technologists in procedures.

  • Oversees daily work schedule and procedure schedule.

  • Reviews mammography requisition and computer exam forms to determine type of exam required.

  • Accurately positions patients, determines exposure factors and operates mammography equipment according to established procedures to obtain a high quality image.

  • Educates patients regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure understanding and cooperation.

  • Ensures patients' comfort and safety during and after the exam.

  • Ensures and maintains quality control in regards to patient care and equipment usage.

  • Ensures quality assurance tests are performed daily/weekly and all policies and procedures are adhered to.

  • Schedules routine, preventative maintenance on equipment to meet safety and regulatory standards.

  • Instructs other area personnel in Radiation Protection, as needed, and ensures their safety.

  • Assists with all policies and procedures required by local, state, or federal law. Assists with compliance or credentialing bodies (ACR, MQSA, Medicare, Medicaid, FDA, etc.).

  • Assists with instrument calibration and records to ensure compliance with quality assurance requirements.

  • Performs checks on mammography equipment to assure proper function of equipment and notifies clinical engineering of any equipment malfunctions.

  • Ensures exam rooms are adequately supplied with linen and related medical supplies.

  • Knowledgeable in acquiring, archiving, transmitting, and printing images via PACS.

  • When applicable, knowledgeable in after hours transmission of images and appropriate paperwork.

  • Reports any malfunctions to help desk and PACS Administrator immediately.

  • Knowledgeable in billing via RIS. Provides technical assistance and acts as a resource to physicians, technologists and students.

  • Reviews processed films/scans to determine quality and need for additional images.

  • Provides technical direction on complex cases and problem solving.

  • Participates in on-going training of technologists and students.

  • Provides orientation of new employees and in-service education. Acts as a liaison between imaging and surgery.

  • Provides and assists with after hour coverage when necessary, i.e. extended hours, weekends, call-in coverage, holidays.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology

Certifications:

  • Must be a Registered Technologist credentialed by The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists R.T.(R) (ARRT), in good standing.

  • Certification in Mammography: R.T.(R) (M) (ARRT).

  • Current state licensure required prior to employment.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Complexity of Work:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work unsupervised or with minimal supervision.

  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

  • Ability to direct, evaluate and supervise others.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum two years of mammography experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift or assist with lifting patients of varying weight and manipulate equipment daily.

  • Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
