Job Description

CleanChoice Energy has an immediate opening for a full-time VP Accounting, Corporate Controller reporting to its Chief Financial Officer. The successful candidate will have experience in planning, directing, and coordinating all accounting operational functions in adherence with US GAAP standards in an entrepreneurial, high-growth company.  The individual must be experienced and comfortable accounting for construction contracts, long-term project costs, partnerships with tax equity financing, and alternative energy pricing and hedging.  The position requires strong interpersonal skills, analytical capabilities, attention to detail, and a strong work ethic.  We seek a highly motivated individual who can work independently and in a dynamic, team-based environment.  The position offers a competitive salary and benefits. 

In this role, you will:

  • Be responsible for GAAP financial reporting for multi-subsidiary business through successful completion of financial statement audits.

  • Ensuring that business processes are sufficient to have timely financial and tax reporting for managed portfolio companies.

  • Be responsible to systematically accumulate data necessary for various non-GAAP metrics.

  • Supervise and provide necessary guidance for segment controllers.

  • Supervise staff responsible for accounting related operations including the accounting information systems, general ledger accounting, accounts payable and disbursements, accounts receivable and cash receipts, payroll accounting, daily reconciliation of bank balances and procurement.

  • Planning, directing, and coordinating all accounting operational functions in adherence with US GAAP standards ensuring compliance with applicable state and federal regulations. 

  • Make necessary technical accounting decisions with or without the use of external consultants.

  • Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results.

  • Coordinating with the Finance Team to ensure the information needed for financial planning and analysis is available on time and on quality.

  • Prepares and distributes internal and external GAAP financial statements.

  • This role will supervise three managers and nine skip level direct reports and external relationships with CPA firms for outside audits and tax compliance. 

    Qualifications

     

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in accounting management with significant experience in the development and / or operation of renewable energy generating assets. 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related business major is required. Master’s degree in business administration (MBA) or certified professional accountant (CPA) designation is preferred. Previous experience in public accounting is highly valued.

  • CleanChoice Energy follows a flexible, hybrid work structure where employees can work remotely or from the office, as needed, based on demands of specific tasks or personal work preferences. Working from the office is encouraged for tasks that require a high degree of collaboration. Preference will be given to candidates that are able to commute to CleanChoice Energy’s regional office hubs in the District of Columbia, Charlotte, NC or Minneapolis, MN.

  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of US generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and express qualified opinions on its application.

  • Must have solid interpersonal and communication skills needed to supervise three or more executive direct reports and an additional nine downstream reports.

  • Impeccable technology, analytical, and management skills including the Microsoft Office suite, cloud based general ledger packages such as Sage Intacct and business analysis platforms such as Workday Adaptive Planning. 

  • Self-motivated and self-directed.
